Connect: Year 6

Week 5 Term 2

Can you believe that we have hit the half way mark of Term 2?  The first half of the term has provided plenty of highlights, but none more so than our Camp to Waratah Beach.  I received a lovely email from the Camp remarking on how polite and enthusiastic our students were and they are a credit to you all.  They did Skye Primary School proud.  I'm sure you've got the run down of all of the exciting things that were packed into our three day experience.  The food was first rate too, with Roast Pork and Lasagne for our dinners and Bacon and Eggs and Pancakes for our breakfasts!

The Next Fortnight of Learning

Mathematics

Over the next two weeks, we will be finishing off with Fractions and be able to work out fractions of whole numbers.  So if you want to know what fraction of the crowd at the MCG are Collingwood supporters, our students may just be the ones to ask!

Literacy

In reading, we are focusing on improving our fluency.  The more fluently and accurately we can read, the better our comprehension will become.  We will be practising this skill during our Literature Circles and other fun activities such as Reader's Theatre.

In writing, we will be finishing off our Recount writing.  The students have really come along in being able to describe a setting by considering the five senses.  This gives the reader a picture in their head like they are (nearly) there.

Inquiry

The next two weeks will see us research and present a prominent Australian to the rest of the class.  This will help us all learn from each other.  So, by the end of the unit, we will all know about Dame Melly Melba, Edith Cohan, Sir Charles Kingsford Smith, Sir John Monash and many more!

Wellbeing

Our Term 2 topic for Resilience Rights and Respectful Relationships is Help Seeking and we will be rehearsing Help Seeking Conversations.

Next week is Reconciliation Week.
