Year 5 Coonawarra Camp  19th -22nd June

Welcome to Ivanhoe Primary School,

Wednesday morning saw us host our Open Morning as part of the Victorian State Schools Education Week.  As usual, it was very well attended, with so many parents, carers and families coming to see our students enjoying active learning.  We also had many prospective families come along too.

The theme of Education week this year is 'active learners: move, make, motivate.  Visitors were treated to enthused learners who were problem solving, creating, moving and making with a Maths and STEM flavour woven in.

A taste of the activities on show were:

Everyone who came were impressed with the learning on offer and how our students were challenged, fully engaged and also enjoying what they were learning.   Year 1 students  read the story, 'Odd One Out' and then created their own odd monster.  Take a look at their creations... (more on the student voice page)

Here's a taste of the year 3 investigations, where students worked on an inquiry task as part of their unit on Geography. They investigated Australia’s ‘Big Things’.  Students researched the locations of existing ‘Big Things’ and learnt about the reasons for their locations.

Turning their focus to Ivanhoe, students then thought about what ‘Big Thing’ they could design for the Ivanhoe community. Here are a few photos of some of their creations.

Open morning was a resounding success with so many vistors seeing so much creativity in classes.  Our student leaders, knowledgably  and confidently gave tours to visitors. Many of whom commented how impressed they were with the student leaders.  I even received an email today to provide some postive feedback to our tour guides!

Hi Pam,
We attended a school tour yesterday and I just wanted to give some positive feedback about our 4 tour guides. We were showed around by Grade 4 students Jasmine and Ross, and Grade 6 students Max and Orly. All four students were so kind, confident, and informative. We were so impressed by their pride in the school and beautiful manners including holding doors open for us to walk through.
Warm Regards,
Richelle

The morning concluded with a concert performed by the Start up Strings group and Orchestra.  They gave an outstanding performance!

Many audience members commented on how well the students performed and to such a high standard.

Well done to everyone!

Attitudes to School Survey  Years 4, 5 and 6

The AtoSS is an annual student survey offered by the Department of Education to assist schools to gain an understanding of students' perceptions and experience of school.

At Ivanhoe Primary School, students in years 4, 5 and 6 will be asked about their thoughts and feelings in relation to their school, their learning, peer relationships, resilience, bullying, health and wellbeing, physical activity, and life in general.

Students in year 4, 5 and 6 will be given the AtoSS in class time between Monday 22nd  May and Friday 26th May.

The link below contains information from the Department of Education about what the survey is and how the information will be used. It also contains information on how parents can opt out of their students participating in the survey.

Thank you for your support in helping us to administer this very important data collection event.

Celebrating Student Achievement

This week's student achievement celebrations should go to the whole of IPS for your performances on Open Morning.  From students proudly demonstrating their learning, to the very talented strings and orchestra performers and to our fantastic student leaders who confidently toured visitors around our school!

Well done!  You are what makes IPS so wonderful!

Finally - Some feedback...

I'll leave the final word to one of our year 2 students who was super impressed with the open day performance.

 Over to you Sivan...

Have a great week!
