F/1/2 News

The F/1/2s have continued to show lots of great learning.

In Religion, we have started looking at Pentecost. The students have begun hearing about the Pentecost story and how it is important to the Church. We have also been discussing the symbols of fire and wind and connecting them to what the Holy Spirit helps us to do.

In Cross Curriculum we have been looking at how we care for special places. The students have been discussing the reasons that we look after different locations and sharing their knowledge on the kind of jobs that we can do to help.

In Maths, we have continued to focus on our addition and subtraction skills. The students are now also starting to learn about 2D shapes and 3D objects. We will focus on being able to name common shapes, such as circles, squares, rectangles, triangles, rhombus, trapezium, cubes, cones, spheres, prisms and pyramids, as well as identifying their features.

In English, we have been focusing on the setting in narratives, which is the second part of the 5 finger retell. We have been discussing how setting includes location and time and that there can be more than one setting in the book.

As it is E-Smart week, the F/1/2 students have also been learning about being safe online. We were lucky to experience a digital story session with over 70 other schools yesterday. The students listened to the story: The internet is like a puddle. It talked about how we cannot always see all the dangers of the internet, just like how we cannot always see how deep a puddle is. We have also engaged in discussions about not talking to strangers online and making sure that a grown up is with us when we are accessing the internet.

It has also been great to see the students working together at break times.

There has been lots of interest in the sand pit and there is a group of students attempting to dig to China. There has been lots of great discussion around where China is and what is in the centre of the Earth. It has been awesome to see that some of the Grade 6 students have been talking to the F/1/2 students about the layers of the Earth and the magma/lava that is under the surface.

                               3/4 News

This fortnight the grade 3/4 class has enjoyed a busy fun filled time at school.

We had two incursions this fortnight which was exciting.

We had Sam come and teach us about habitats and how we can help reduce the impact we are making on them. We loved learning all the interesting facts she taught us and were able to write recount pieces based on the information we learnt.

We also had Charlotte from St John's first aid come and teach us what to do in an emergency situation. We learnt the importance of knowing our address to give to the 000 caller as well as how to put someone into the recovery position, check for dangers and check someone's breathing.

We have enjoyed these perfect autumn days and have been trying to take as much advantage of them as possible! We spent some time with Mrs Jamieson in the garden weeding, picking vegetables and laying new mulch.
