On Monday 15th May, St Mary's Students enjoyed a Whole School Incursion with Sam, who gave the student's a live show on Let's Talk Habits, whose message for us as humans to minimise waste can be achieved efficiently by focusing primarily on the first of the 3Rs, "reduce," followed by "reuse" and then "recycle." We also need to produce less carbon dioxide because all plants and animals need oxygen in their habitat. She was great at making the hand puppets come to life with her actions and animated voice. Patrick and Amara were good sports when they came up to the stage to make finger puppets at the show's end.

On Friday 19th May 2023 St Mary's Primary School had Open Day for Catholic Education Week. We had the Gr 6's students ready to escort visitors around the school. We had nine families come to see our students at work in their classrooms and generally visit the school as a whole. Thanks to Mrs Jameison for making the outstanding Powerpoint showing the student and all the programs the school provides; and for making the yummy pumpkin soup. Lastly, for the wonderful mums who came to cook the sausages on the BBQ - it was just what we needed on a cold day. - thank you for the effort you put into helping to make St Mary's a wonderful place to teach and learn for the staff and students.

It was Heath's birthday on Friday, which resulted in Katrina baking yummy

cupcakes for all the Gr 5/ 6. Thank you, Katrina and Heath, for sharing.

National Simultaneous Story Time is on Wednesday 24th May, in week 5. The book we will read together is The Speedy Sloth by Rebecca Young and Illustrated by Heath McKenzie. It was finally time for the event of the year, Spike couldn't believe it—The Great Race was here! The other sloths said it couldn't be done, but Spike didn't care. She was ready to run! There is an excellent moral to this story.

Grade 5/6 have been working very hard on using connectives (e.g. furthermore…, as a result…, therefore…) in their writing. They have also been working on their phonics and word knowledge using the THRASS approach to spelling.

In writing, the Gr 5 students have been composing letters to Mrs Fraser applying for the position of Fire Carriers, while the Gr 6’s have been writing letters to other teachers within the school expressing their appreciation for their efforts.

We have been working on open-ended tasks in maths and looking at shape, location, transformation, and geometric reasoning. It has been pleasing to see the students improve their speedy maths results compared to the start of the year.

This year, the Gr 5/6 will be going to the Festival of the Sacred in Kyabram, and as such, we have been practising the dance moves, singing and actions for this festival which is Wednesday, 14 June.

Please note that parents do not need to take their child to this concert. A bus will take the students to and from it on the day. Please return the signed photography permission slip as soon as possible.
