Program for Students with Disabilities

The Program for Students with Disabilities (PSD) provides funding to assist schools to support eligible students with disability and high needs who attend government schools.

PSD Categories

There are seven categories of eligibility criteria:

Physical disability

Visual impairment

Hearing impairment

Severe behaviour disorder

Intellectual disability

Autism Spectrum Disorder

Severe language difficulties with critical educational needs

Each category has defined parameters for funding. The process when applying for funding requires specified reports and meeting of set criteria.

Please contact me if you would like to discuss applications for funding for current students or future students. I will be able to explain the process and criteria that will need to be met for applications to be successful.

Details on PSDMS can be found at: https://www.education.vic.gov.au/school/teachers/learningneeds/Pages/psdhandbook.aspx

Family Support Services

There are a number of agencies that we can access support for families. I am including details on several which we use to support families at Newlands.

State school Relief

State Schools’ Relief provides support to any Victorian student attending a government school (primary, secondary or specialist), on the advice of the school. Schools are able to submit an application whenever they believe there is a need to support a student whose family/carers are facing difficulty in providing the appropriate uniform, footwear or educational items for attending school.

Situations include, but are not limited to:

  • Unemployment
  • Health issues/illness
  • Financial difficulties
  • Independent living and/or homelessness
  • Natural disasters, house fires
  • Bereavement
  • Domestic violence

Contact me if you would like support from State School Relief. The process is straight forward and quick with requests fulfilled with a week. All requests for support are confidential.

State School Relief provide a package of clothing for all foundation students who qualify for CSEF funding. I will contact eligible families to organise this package before the end of term 2.

Orange Door

They can provide support if:

  • you need help with parenting, or you are worried about the wellbeing or development of a child or young person
  • someone close to you is making you feel afraid or unsafe such as your partner, ex-partner, family member or carer
  • you are a child or young person who doesn’t feel safe or cared for
  • you are at risk of using abusive or controlling behaviour or you need help with these behaviours at home or in a relationship
  • you are worried about the safety of someone you know

Anglicare

We can facilitate and support a referral to Orange Door and Anglicare, or you can contact them directly.

Buenos Dias Parents and Carers.

Any families that hold a valid Concession Card are eligible for CSEF.

Eligible families can apply for CSEF by obtaining a form from the office. This form needs to be filled out and submitted with an attached copy of your Concession Card by no later than the 21st of June 2023
