Buenas Dias a todos,
It is actually scary to say but we are at the end of Week 6. This term has flown by but the events and great times continue.
Today is ‘Open Learning’ from 2:30 – 3:30pm in your child’s classroom. This is a great opportunity for the families to get into the school and enjoy the learning that takes place at Newlands. I would like to thank all the parents for giving up their time to come to the session! We know how much our students love having you at school and sharing their learning with you. A further thank you to the 4/6 teachers for organising the information session for the upcoming snow camp. There is definitely a lot of excitement about Term 3’s camp in Marysville.
On Wednesday night, I was able to attend the PFA meeting. I would like to say a massive thank you to this team for giving up their time on a Wednesday night (and also missing the Ted Lasso finale) to create events and opportunities for our school community to come together and raise money for our school. The PFA need as much help as they can get, so if you are interested in joining in the fun times in any capacity, please make contact via the various platforms that they have set up. There is a fete, a comedy night and an art show – please show your support to the PFA and to the school!
On Thursday night, the Spanish Sub Committee organised a dinner for our parent community to practice their Spanish (there were varying levels). This was an enjoyable evening with incredible food and PG beverages. Thank you to all the families for attending, we hope another one of these nights happen again soon!
A round of applause to our students who represented our school at the Division Cross Country this week. Congratulations to Issac, Florence and Paxton who ran their hearts out. A thank you to Raul, who has been committed to introducing Newlands Protein Supplements during his Physical Education sessions (This is not true!)
The F/1s ARRGH singing Spanish pirate songs. There has been a lot of looking out for treasure in the Newlands Playground. This is just a Friday treat for you all to enjoy! The real question is will the Ninja excursion kill the current Pirate trend that is happening in the F/1 area? All will be revealed on June the 13th! Please make sure you pay and give permission via SENTRAL!
The 2/3 area is filled with boxes as they begin to create new styles of zoos and national parks that ensure animals are living a life with more freedom and dignity. After the Werribee Zoo excursion, the students were able to identify not only what is great about the zoo but what could be better, as well as considering the amount of comfort and freedom for animals. This has been a part of their ethics Inquiry topic, where the students have been proposed many ethical questions. Further exciting news is the upcoming premiere of “What does Newlands Value?” Rumours are that it will be bigger than the new Little Mermaid. We look forward to next Wednesday’s screening at Pentridge Cinema!
The 4/6s have continued to work on their presentations discussing the social, environmental and financial impact of various products. Some of the students have been looking at individual products such as telephones, smart watches and palm oil while others are looking at businesses such as Apple and BHP. It was great to speak to Rafael as we discussed the positives and negatives of construction and the need to find more environmentally efficient ways moving forward.
A reminder that we will have a school tour on Saturday! While we understand its odd to have a tour without our students, this is an opportunity for families who don’t have weekday availability. A gentle reminder to families that have a child starting Foundation next year - we need your enrolment by the end of week! The perfect time to bring it is when you attend next Thursday’s 2024 Foundation Information night.
We are going to trial this again, Sunday looks perfect!!! The famous Newlands Working Bee will be going again. Here is the poster, ignore the date! Enjoy the information! THIS SUNDAY!!
We look forward to seeing you on Sunday!
Thanks, Luke
