Wellbeing & Culture

International Orangutan Day acknowledges the plight of the most recognisable victim of the Palm Oil industry. Despite extensive campaigning, Orangutan habitat continues to be destroyed and Palm Oil plantations put in place of the lush forests required to sustain these, and many other, Indonesian endangered animals.

This term in Indonesian, Middle School students have been learning about a number of Indonesian endangered animals. One of these animals is the Orangutan. Students often don’t feel like they can do anything to help these animals, but we will be entering student drawings of Sumatran and Bornean animals into The OrangARTan Project Art Competition to help rescue orphaned Orangutans from the illegal wildlife trade. Students can attend the Culture Club in the Indonesian Classroom during Wednesday Recess to complete their drawings. Drawings need to be finished and given to Bu Webster by Thursday 25th August.
