Grade 1/2

Book Week:

Last Friday we celebrated Book Week where all the students in the school had an opportunity to dress up as a character from a chosen book for the day.  It was an amazing day and the children had so much fun! The day began with a morning assembly where the children had an opportunity to show off their costumes in a parade in the Performing Arts Theatre. There was an array of costumes ranging from Harry Potter, Where’s Wally, Cinderella, Lilo, Spiderman, Batman, 101 Dalmatians, The Hungry Caterpillar, The Lion King and so many more. The Year P-2 teachers chose the book ‘Thelma the Unicorn’ and dressed up as unicorns for the day. We even got to hear Mrs Thornton read a book to the whole school called ‘Giraffe’s Can’t Dance’.

The day continued with the Year 1 and 2 children combining with students from each year level to attend three activity rotations. One of the activities was listening to ‘Walk Of The Whales’. The students then made a whale collage of various themes including whales watching T.V or playing football and even the theme of the Eiffel Tower in the background.

Miss O’Sullivan and Miss Dowell shared the story ‘Stellarphant’ and they had a choice of activities including making a rocket and decorating it with glitter, making an elephant paper plate mask or designing their own animal astronaut. Another activity was the story ‘What Do You Call Your Grandma?’ and students then designed a wall hanging of their own grandma or grandpa as their activity.  It was great to see the older students helping the younger children in the various groups to complete their activities.

After lunch each grade was given a Book Week Quiz and as a class was asked to answer the questions on paper and hand in their answers to the office. It was a wonderful and exciting day for the Year 1/2 students, and we would like to take this opportunity to thank parents for assisting their children with their costumes and contributing to such an enjoyable day.
