What a wonderful and busy term we have had! Thank you to all our lovely parents for your continued support in your child's education. We have had a fun term, with lots to be grateful for. Our students loved the Buffing Billy excursion. It was a consensus that the most enjoyable part of the day was actually going on Puffing Billy and playing on the playground at Emerald Lake Park. Thank you to our parent helpers for making the day run so smoothly.

This term we all participated in Book Week. The theme was 'Dreaming with Eyes Open'. The student's enjoyed sharing who they came dressed up as and from which book. Their costumes wee fantastic!

On Tuesday, all the Year One students had a chance to participate in an AFL footy clinic. Students played different games and learned how to kick and handball.

In the Year One classrooms, we have been having lots of fun in Maths. As well as doing our explicit instruction, we have also introduced group rotations. Students are involved in different activities related to the focus topic. The four rotations gives our students a chance to complete engaging tasks that are also different. This way our students have multiple exposure to the topic being taught.

  • Maths with the Teacher; this is where we work in our small groups to do differentiated teaching, related to the topic or specific areas of need.
  • Maths with Someone; students get to work with a classmate to complete an activity or play a maths game.
  • Maths by Myself; students will work on their maths goal or complete a rich, open ended question.
  • Digital Maths; students get a chance to work on specific areas of need, using My Numeracy or Mathlectics.

Term Four Tricky Words

Through the InitiaLit program a range of Tricky Words are taught. These words are referred to as Tricky Words as they cannot be spelled by sounding them out. After reading with your child, feel free to extend them by practising the words below.

Other ways you can use the Tricky Words;

  • sky write the words, using your writing hand and say each letter as you write them
  • use the words in sentences
  • practice reading the words out.

 Home Readers

For every person reading is an important life long skill. We strongly encourage reading everyday to support your child's consolidation of this ability.  This term, one to two readers will be given out on a Monday and changed over the following Monday. This change will allow more opportunities for your child to practise their reading.

Readers will be given on a Monday and are required to be returned on the following Monday.
