Communicating with the Specialist Team
We look forward to partnering with you in 2022, and welcome your input:
Sensei Masae Uekusa (Japanese) Masae.Uekusa@education.vic.gov.au
Konnichiwa, minasan! (Hello, everyone!)
‘YOUKOSO’ (Welcome) to the Upwey South Japanese Room!
Thank you and well done for all the amazing work and every effort into learning Japanese in term 3!
Foundation: ‘Weather Report’
Foundation students learnt the weather song by heart and now they can sing it without any help. They can also quickly respond to the roll question ‘Donna tenki? (How is the weather?)’ with the appropriate answers. Fantastic effort!
Year 1 and 2: ‘MOTTAINAI BAASAN’ (‘Mottainai’ grandma)
Grade 1/2 students finalised their ‘Mottainai baasan’(‘Mottainai’ grandma) book to celebrate their learning. It is great to hear the students using Japanese animal names to communicate with each other and talking to themselves! Very well done!
Year 3 and 4: Hiragana Black Belt Challenge (Continued)
Grade 3/4 students have learnt up to the purple belt of the Hiragana chart this term. This means they have worked on half the chart, 25 out of all 46 Hiragana letters. Learning each letter involved learning the shape, its trigger stories (mnemonics) stroke order and actually writing it. Great effort!
Year 5 and 6: ‘MOTTAINAI BAASAN’ (‘Mottainai’ grandma)
Grade 5/6 students the phrases, words and Hiragana letters related to ‘Mottainai baasan (Mottainai grandma)’ stories. I was impressed how quickly they could code-shift into learning Japanese in-between the production rehearsal. The students have definitely stepped up and acquired a lot of learning skills. Great work!
Thank you everyone for your kind support for the Japanese program in term 3.
Hope you have great holidays and see you in term 4!
