What a busy few weeks we have had in the Health & Physical Education Curriculum!

Curriculum Update

Foundation:

Over the past few weeks, the Foundation Students have focused on skills around bouncing and kicking as well as completing their Semester portfolio task.

The focus connected to bouncing was to allow the students to explore the option of dribbling with both hands, right and or left hand. Once the students were confident they participate in a game of bouncing fruit salad which incorporate movement.

The students participated in a AFL football clinic run by accredited coaches which taught and implemented the core skills which are involved in the game e.g. kicking, handball and marking.

As a part of their Health task for this term, the students looked at what emotions the body can feel and what they may look like (in emoji form). The students had to reflect a range of different emotions through their own individual drawings.

Year One/Two:

Over the past few weeks the Level 1 & 2 Students have focused on skills around bouncing striking and kicking as well as completing their Semester portfolio task.

The focus connected to bouncing was to allow the students to explore the option of dribbling with both hands, right and or left hand. Once the students were confident they participate in a game of bouncing fruit salad which incorporate movement.

To finalise they unit on striking students participated in some team games to allow them to apply the learned skills of the two-handed and one-handed strike.

The students participated in an AFL football clinic run by accredited coaches which taught and implemented the core skills which are involved in the game e.g. kicking, handball and marking.

Level 1: As a part of their Semester portfolio task the Level 1 students focused on developing an understanding of healthy foods they can pack a lunch with. They were provided with a variety of different foods and had to cut out and glue down the foods in their lunch box to reflect healthy options

Level 2: As a part of their Semester portfolio task, the Level 2 students focused on developing an understanding of what Respect, Responsibility and Resilience looks, sounds and feels like to them in a sporting context. They were able to describe this both through visual images and written descriptions.

Year Three/Four:

Over the past few weeks, the Level 3 & 4 students have concluded their unit on striking while also completing their Semester portfolio task.

The completion of the striking unit saw the students applied all the learned skills e.g. push pass, dribbling and shooting to a game of Thunder Hockey. It was very pleasing to see how well the students collaborated in their teams.

To conclude the term, the students participated in an AFL clinic run by external accredited coach which focused on the core skills involved with the game (Kicking, Handballing, Bouncing and Marking).

As a part of their health lesson for the term the 3/4 students completed a task around identifying what their personal strengths were. They achieved this via to methods. Firstly, they had to survey their classmates and record the given answers and then list what they believed to be their individual strengths.

Year Five/Six:

Over the past few weeks, the Level 5 & 6 students have have concluded their unit on striking while also completing their Semester portfolio task.

The completion of the striking unit saw the students applied all the learned skills e.g. push pass, dribbling and shooting to a game of Thunder Hockey. It was very pleasing to see how well the students collaborated in their teams.

The Level 5 & 6 students learnt about the body's energy systems (PC system, Lactic Acid and Aerobic). The students learned how each systems works and how they interact with one another. They then had the chance to select one of the systems to describe and apply it to a given sport.

District/Division Athletics

On September 1st and 14th a select group of Level 3-6 students participated in either one of both of the District/Division Athletics Carnival. Students either competed in either a track or field event or a combination of both. Some of the results achieved on the day were amazing. We have some students place 1st of 2nd in their individual events and we had two relay teams make it through to Division. What was even more satisfying was the student's ability to uphold our school values on the day and the team spirit that was on display.

I would like to thank all the families who attended on the day to support the students. We have such a fantastic community at USPS.

Good luck to Jacob M, Skylar F, Pippa M Lillie D, Brigitte A and Will C who now head to the Regional event on Thursday October 20th.
