Edmund Rice Day + India Fun Run

Some highlights of what has been a wonderful day. A detailed wrap of the day will be included in next week's newsletter.

No More Hair!!

Congratulations to our World's Greatest Shavers who today lost their luscious locks in support of an amazing cause. As this newsletter goes to print, the team have raised more than $36,000 - completely smashing their goal of $30,000. Well done to everyone and thank you to all those who donated.

Careers in the Gaming Industry

On Friday, 29 July, some students at TC had the privilege of hearing from TC Old Boy Brandon Doray ('16) when he came to discuss 'Careers in the Gaming Industry'.

The Year 9 Game Design students learnt about the undergraduate course offered in Animation and Game Design at Curtin University. Brandon shared his experiences of university life and gave some insight into what it was like to study alongside some very creative, innovative people in a rapidly growing industry. Brandon showcased some of his digital portfolio of work and he was brave enough to let the students play and critique his latest 3D video game.

Brandon then shared some of his extensive knowledge with the Senior Game Design students. He taught our students how to create a walk cycle using Blender which is a 3D animation and visual effects software application. Brandon highlighted that these skills are easily learnt and can be transferred into commercial projects when working in the gaming industry. We would like to thank Brandon for giving up his time to come speak with our keen game design students and for inspiring young minds at the College.

Science Week

This week to celebrate Science Week several activities took place across the school.

On Thursday, the Year 8 Astronomy class celebrated the week by launching their model rockets at lunchtime for the whole school to enjoy.  Our Physics students also did some interesting experiments to coincide with the week.

Prefect Perspectives

The week began with a belated start on Tuesday morning, ending a well-deserved long weekend before long a list of mid-term assessments for all year groups.

Thursday afternoon provided a wrap to winter sport for the year (with non-first teams playing their last fixture against Hale last weekend) as the first teams finished their season against Scotch College. For many Year 12s, a great way to end their sporting endeavours at Trinity College, against competitive Scotch sides. In fact, it is not long until Year 12 graduation, a bittersweet moment. Although my fellow brothers would have ended one journey, we will embark on another, adulthood.

Personally, I feel truly privileged to have represented TC over my years at the College and I know that this bond that I have formed with my fellow brothers will be everlasting. Moreover, I encourage all younger years to cherish these moments and try to soak it in while you can. I know it sounds cliché, but it will be over before you know it, I cannot put enough emphasis on that.

In saying that many students will still get the opportunity to show their talents on the athletics track/field before the year concludes. With the PSA carnival closing in, we need all our best athletes at training to further develop their skills and improve on their technique.

This Friday, 19 August marks the World’s Greatest Shave. A number of teachers, including the Heads of Years and 13 Year 12 students have taken on the great challenge. They are shaving their hair for a great cause, the Leukaemia Foundation. The goal was set at an ambiguous $30 000, with everyone putting in immense effort to raise this amount, and on Wednesday they reached their target! A MASSIVE effort. I would like to commend everyone involved, on behalf of my fellow peers and the TC community. However, if you haven’t already donated even the smallest amount can still make a huge impact... Giving a little is better than not giving at all. The efforts of one person can't move mountains, but you will be surprised what the power of numbers can do.

Furthermore, this today marked Edmund Rice Day and the India Fun Run. An abundance of excitement for one day. A day where we show our utmost respect and appreciation to the life of Edmund Rice, a man for others. We should all aspire to be like this great man, more specifically the congregation of Christian brothers that the foundation of Trinity College is built on.

Keep up the good work boys and rewards will come your way!
