A tribute to fathers and father figures in the lives of the children at Holy Family

Whose plane will they pick for the comp?

On Thursday 1st September, the children and dads (big brothers, kind uncles, special mentors and a few mums and grandmothers) celebrated Father's Day with the children at Holy Family.

We were thrilled to host over 100 people at our Pizza and Plane Evening. We started the evening with a big slice ....or two...or three of pizza. Families then created their paper planes before the big finale - flying them.

There were three categories:

  1. furthest distance (Congratulations to)
  2. which plane stayed in the air the longest (Congratulations to )
  3. boomerang (some said it couldn't be done, but a couple of people proved them wrong) (Congratulations to )

I want to share this quote from the Fathering Project, which inspired our evening.

"Why Paper Planes?

Building Paper Planes are inclusive of all ages and all abilities. It allows children and fathers to stand shoulder to shoulder while expressing themselves individually. But, it's more than an activity; paper planes signify forward movement, soaring high and reaching for the stars.

It allows every child to dream and be what they want to be.

And it allows every father and father figure to give their child the support to be who they want to be. "

Hear from some of the children who attended with members of their families.

I liked making paper planes. It was a bit tricky, but it was so much fun.  - Favor I loved it because spending more time with my dad was inspiring. - Jessica
