Wellbeing & Engagement

Today is a great day to be you!

Student Attitudes to School Survey

As Marika briefly reflected on in the Principal’s page, each year our senior students (Year 4, 5 and 6) participate in the Student Attitudes to School survey. This survey allows us to gather valuable data and feedback from our students (this year, 276 students completed the survey) which is then used to 1) celebrate our successes with the students and staff and 2) identify areas for improvement and opportunities for future growth.

As a school, we are continually reflecting on student learning and wellbeing data to ensure we are doing everything we can to provide the best possible environment and support for our students to reach their full potential. The collected data this year highlighted many positive outcomes. Particularly pleasing across the cohorts include:

Overall life satisfaction (an appreciation for ‘what I have’) is up significantly on last year, rising from a positive response of 64% to 77% in 2022. This is a result we are very proud of, given the work the school has put in through The Resilience Project and a key focus on gratitude across the year. We also compare extremely favorably to similar/network schools in this measure.

Students with a high level of resilience has slightly improved (58% to 61%), but even more pleasing is that our students with low resilience has dropped, from 35% last year to only 28% this year. This indicates a small group of students who may have previously struggled in terms of resilience have ‘shifted’ to normal/high resilience levels, which is fantastic.

Help seeking behaviours is an area we have been explicitly focusing on with our students this year, and it was pleasing to see our overall positive endorsement in this area climb from 52% in 2021 to 60% this year. Students are feeling more confident and comfortable approaching others (including staff members) for help.

We also scored well above similar/network schools in terms of online safety - students who have had no negative experiences online (81%). This is a credit to the work our staff and students have done to support eSmart behaviours, throughout a period of time where students have spent significantly more time online than ever before!

A large 84% of our Year 4 to 6 students responded that they have not experienced bullying at our school, which continued an upward positive trend over the past three years (76% in 2020 and 79% in 2021). This result is also consistent with similar/network schools, and better than the state average. Whilst it’s a positive to celebrate, it also highlights the importance of getting the correct support structures in place for the minority of our students who have experienced the effects of bullying.

Our students’ overall sense of inclusion was an 87% positive response rate. This is wonderful that almost 9 out of every 10 students feel they belong and are included in everything we are doing at Rangeview.

Through workshops, school staff has also identified some areas for future improvement.

  • Student voice is an area all schools strive to promote, and we are no different - however these results came back slightly below what we had hoped for. We will seek to explore further opportunities for students to contribute their own thoughts and ideas towards their learning and the programs we run at the school.
  • Particular year levels and subgroups, such as our Year 5 female students, will receive ongoing support to ensure positive wellbeing outcomes is a priority. Our Year 5 females are a small cohort (only 29 students) and some of their results from this survey indicate a need for deeper focus and intervention. We have already begun this work by introducing ‘social skills and resilience’ groups with our social worker, Natalie Powell, on Wednesdays. Our Year 5/6 teaching team is also looking to implement some additional supports to boost the outcomes of this cohort.

National eSmart Week

Last week at school, we celebrated National eSmart Week.

Brainstorm Productions visited the school and performed their ‘Saving Lil and Archie’ show; this gave our students many wonderful tips on how to be safe online and the importance of eSmart behaviours. In addition, it was simply very entertaining and engaging - it was great to see our students have so much fun!

Back in classrooms, many eSmart activities were completed across the week and we are very proud of the eSmart behaviours our students display when using devices and accessing the internet.

A huge thank you to Steve Atkinson, our school eSmart leader, for his organisation of the incursion and activities across the week.

Billy Cart / Footy Colours Day

We cannot wait until this Friday - two days to go!

Our annual Billycart and Footy Colours day will be a wonderful event to wrap up the third term. All of the action will take place out on the grassphalt area (blue basketball courts) from 9:15am to 11:00am. If your child is entered to compete in the Billycart races, they are welcome to bring their billycarts to the grassphalt area from 8:30am.

All students, staff and visitors are encouraged to wear the colours of their favourite footy team. If your child doesn’t follow an AFL team, they are welcome to wear the colours of

any sport they enjoy.

This is a weather-dependent event. If it is too wet to go ahead, normal classes will continue for the day.

GO CATS!

End of Term 3 - Final Whole School Assembly

On Friday at 2:00pm, we will say our goodbyes for the end of term 3 with a whole school assembly in the gym. Parents and carers, and any other members of the school community, are welcome to attend (we do request visitors wear masks inside).

Following the assembly, students will be dismissed at 2:30pm for the school holiday break.

Year 5 Camp - Forest Edge

When we do return to school in a couple of weeks, our Year 5s will be immediately off on the bus to our final school camp of the year. The kids will need to bring along all of their luggage on the first day of term 4 - and we will meet in the library on the Monday morning (October 3rd) before setting off.

Thank you to the staff involved in planning and running this camp - I am personally really looking forward to being part of another very fun three days away!
