Digitech/Lego Club
Digitech
Level 3 and 4 have been finishing off their stop motion animations and are doing a great job of trying to incorporate the five rules in their movies. Unfortunately there have been a few days off for Level 3, but I’m sure they’ll still produce some fantastic animations for you to enjoy!
Level 5 and 6 have been finishing off their ‘choose your own adventure’ animated interactive stories using the coding platform Scratch. Many students have managed to successfully produce complicated branching stories that are really entertaining for the end user – just ask our Level 2 students who had a go at the Arts installation night last week!
FLL
First Lego League is ramping up and our teams are rapt that the mat and mission models have arrived, and they can now get started on their robot game. This year seems to have some really accessible models so I think the tricky decision will be what not to do when calculating the best run. They’ve also been really lucky to have head ref and super experienced FLL coach Mic Lowne coming in during Term 4 whilst I (Mr Evans) take some leave.
LEGO CLUB
As expected, attendance numbers for our individual LEGO Club sessions have been declining which has allowed us to run a condensed Junior LEGO Club for Foundation to Level 2 in week 9, and a senior LEGO club for Level 3-6 in week 10. Unfortunately, LEGO Club is unlikely to run in term 4 during my absence. Mic will be working very closely with the First Lego League team during the three days he will be replacing me in Digitech, but we will look forward to a renewed LEGO Club in Term 1, 2023.
Rock Band
It has been tricky over the last few years to arrange performances for our Rangeview Rock Band, but this year we’ve definitely managed to get a few runs on the board. At the Arts installation last Thursday after school, they did a fabulous job of closing the night, performing three songs (two of which were the first time they’d performed them). Unfortunately our drummer was absent, but the amazing Mr Anderson jumped on the kit and did a great job – especially for someone who’d never heard one of the songs let alone played it before!
Fantastic work everyone!!! I’m so proud of you all!
