Flora & Fauna

COOKING: The smells emanating from the Gallery are certainly gaining the attention of staff and students wandering nearby. Students are very much enjoying following Mrs O’Keefe’s simple recipe on how to prepare, mix and cook the pakoras. Very delicious! We have now completed Rotation 6 and look forward to beginning a new rotation and new recipe in Term 4.

GARDENING: During our visit to the Melbourne Museum, many of our students learned about Indigenous Australian plants and ‘bush tucker’. We are currently working on sourcing some of these plants to add to our existing garden beds, with the view to using some of the edible plants in our Cooking rotations. Watch this space!

SUSTAINABILITY: Students are learning about the United Nations 17 SDG’s (Sustainable Development Goals) and identifying these from a student’s perspective. They have been tasked with choosing one of these goals and creating a poster outlining how ‘they’, ‘we’ and ‘our community’ can make changes to improve the world we live in for all children and their families.

The United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals are outlined below for your reference. We encourage you to engage in discussions with your child about what they have learned, including steps we can all take to improve our world.

SCIENCE: Students continued to investigate the topic of ‘Cooling’ during Rotation 6 and enjoyed learning about how freezing works, as noted by the amounts of ice we noticed strewn across the garden outside the Level 3 Hubs at the end of the lessons! Fun definitely had by all involved!

As always, thank you for your continued support of our Flora and Fauna program, whether it be by helping out in our gardens or cooking in the Gallery with Mrs O’Keefe. We wish you all happy holidays and a restful break. We look forward to sharing details next term as we begin new topics in Rotation 7 for Science and Sustainability and of course a brand-new recipe in Cooking!
