Reconciliation Week

Students across both campuses engaged in activities connected to Reconciliation Week (27 May – 3 June). Throughout the week, students meaningfully participated in discussions surrounding this year’s theme: Be a Voice for Generations.

Students at the Coburg campus engaged in a research project, that located indigenous clans and traditional place names throughout Australia. Mark prepared a delicious recess and lunch, utilising native ingredients, while Kathy and Elle lead students on a walk of the Merri Creek to view a ceremonial site belonging to the Wurundjeri people.

Students of VET Furniture (Coburg campus) have been conducting a rubbish audit to monitor their waste.

WILD Camp

Last week a group of senior students and staff attended an exciting five-day WILD Camp at Coopers Creek Campsite. Students had the opportunity to develop their teamwork, communication and confidence in the outdoors whilst learning a wide range of new skills. The camp included a rafting expedition down the Thompson River, where students developed their paddling skills as they journeyed down the river’s rapids. Students also had the opportunity to visit the historical Walhalla township, where they travelled on an old steam train and toured a historic gold mine. During the trip students also hiked to Mushroom Rock, where they explored the incredible views of the region. When at camp students enjoyed making fire, camp cooking, playing games, group singalongs and hanging out as a group. A huge congratulations to all students who were involved in the week, and big thank-you to the WILD and school staff who facilitated the program.
