NEWS & ADMINISTRATION
Mrs Caroline Galea
Dear Parents,
We have reached the end of Term 2 and effectively come to the middle of the year.
Over the past fortnight, Derryn and I have had the privilege of speaking to existing and new families who have lodged an application for Prep 2024. To date, we have 38 applications, how many of these will transfer into actual students, we are not sure.
Thank you for your recommendations to our school.
This week, we held parent teacher interviews. We hope that you took the opportunity to access your child's written report and visit their classroom teacher. We thank you for your continued support in your child's education.
Throughout Term 2, we have had to speak to our students (particularly our Senior students) about the way that they resolve problems and the language that they have chosen to use. At Holy Name, we try and educate our children to be respectful of one another, but unfortunately this does not always happen. We know that children will make mistakes, but we are hopeful that they will also learn from their mistakes and become active citizens in our society, however we can't do this alone. We always encourage students to come and see a teacher or leader as soon as an incident occurs. Unfortunately, this is not as common amongst the senior students as it is with the junior students. If we are not aware that something is happening, we are not able to help out and tackle the problem, but once we become aware of a situation, we can and will do all we can, to sort out the issue. We encourage you to speak to your children about friendship issues and the way in which they resolve problems. Please feel free to let us know if your child is experiencing difficulties socially.
I would also like to formally thank Father Joe for his time at Holy Name. Father Joe came to Holy Name in 2018. Father Joe always welcomed the school community at Mass and helped us in any way that he could. On Friday, we will be attending Mass as a school to thank Father Joe for his work in our community. From what we understand, we will not have a Parish Priest until September. As soon as we have further details we will be sure to let you know.
All parents are welcome to join us for the 9:00am Mass.
Term 3
Term 3 will be yet another busy term with Grade 3/4s participating in a weekly dance clinic on Mondays. Grade 4 camp is also in Term 3 on Thursday 27th and Friday 28th July. The students will be heading again to Sovereign Hill. Prep - 2 students will be participating in a two week intensive swimming in the last two weeks of Term 3 (4th September - 15 September).
Sacrament of First Eucharist
Last Sunday, our Year 4 students and other Year 5 and 6 students received the Sacrament of Eucharist or their First Holy Communion as it is also known as. Congratulations to all our participants. It was wonderful to witness our students receiving another sacrament in their faith journey. Please take the time to read the Religion section of our newsletter.
Possible Car Show
Next year, we would like to have a car show at Holy Name as something different. We are asking for volunteers that would be interested in putting this event together to come together to form a committee, just for this event. The committee would be responsible for putting together a proposal, making enquiries, and generally organising and running the day. If this is something that you might be interested in, could you please email me principal@hnpe.catholic.edu.au to express your interest in being part of this group.
Crazy Hair/Socks Day
Naidoc Week
While we are away on holidays, Australia will be celebrating Naidoc Week. NAIDOC Week 2023 is this year’s version of an annual, week-long celebration of the history and cultures of Aboriginal and Torres Straits Islander peoples. It is held for a week, starting with the first Sunday in July. NAIDOC Week 2023 will be held from Sunday, July 2nd through to Sunday, July 9th, 2023. NAIDOC stands for National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee.
The NAIDOC Week 2023 theme will be ‘For Our Elders’. The NAIDOC 2023 theme was chosen to reflect the important role that elders play in the lives of Indigenous Australians.
There are several activities that your children can complete to recognise Naidoc week.
Activities:
Use a dream time story to create a game that someone else can play.
Use a dream time story and create a powerpoint/slides to retell the story using your own artwork.
Art
Some Art news from Mrs Preece
Lost Property Basket
The basket is overflowing with expensive uniform items, mainly woollen jumpers, windcheaters (& even jackets) with no names or names of children long gone from the school. We return as many items to their owners as we can, but if parents don't name or rename the pieces, there's nothing we can do.
If your child has lost a uniform item, please come and look through the basket in the office corridor, take your item and don't forget to name it.
CODING CLUB
Coding club is available again in Term 3 on Monday lunchtimes for students in Grade 3-6. Please follow the link and book your child in if they are interested.
Father Joe's Farewell Mass
Assembly Roster
We welcome all parents and friends to join us each Monday from 2:30 for our assembly. Each week a different grade level will share and present their learnings.
The Term 3 roster is yet to be determined.
