Learning Across the

Junior School

From the Head of Junior School and Early Learning

The Junior School has enjoyed a fabulous week of celebrations showcasing the remarkable talents and achievements of our girls. A highlight was the captivating Year 3 Strings Concert held on Tuesday evening. Our Year 3 students, who have been actively participating in the Junior Strings Immersion Program, shared a repertoire of group and solo pieces, playing with confidence and growing skill and musical ability. We look forward to our Year 5 Band Concert which will be held on Tuesday 27 June at 6pm in PAC. Sincere thanks to Ms Lisa Schulz, Mr Tim DeJong, and our music tutors for preparing the girls for both events.

In addition, we celebrated the remarkable accomplishments of our Year 4 and Year 6 students. Both year levels presented highly engaging and informative speeches at their class Showcases, skilfully sharing their inquiry research findings and achievements in class.

We also extend our heartfelt congratulations to Ms Josephine De Angelis, Reception teacher, and Ms Isabelle Roberts, JS Religious Education Coordinator & College Liturgist, for attaining their Highly Accomplished certification. National teacher certification is an Australia-wide approach to support teachers to progress their careers while remaining in the classroom. Achieving Highly Accomplished certification is a testament to their exceptional skills and expertise as teaching practitioners.

With love and appreciation, we also held a farewell liturgy this week or Sister Diaan and Sister Verna who are returning to their home states to be near family. We are forever grateful for their long-term contributions and service to our community and wish them the very best as they begin a new chapter in their Loreto journey.

We also extend our best wishes to our talented aerobics teams as they prepare for the FISAF State Championships on Saturday 1 July. The dedication, discipline, and hard work demonstrated by our team members have been truly remarkable and we hope they have a fabulous time showcasing their skill and talent at the competition.

Term 2 concludes on Friday 30 June at 3.20pm and school reports will be posted on Loreto Connect during the following week.

We hope all families and our fabulous teachers enjoy a fantastic time during the July school holidays and we look forward to seeing everyone back on Tuesday 25 July for the commencement of Term 3.

Celebrating Cultural Artistry: Year 6 Girls Connect to Their Migrants' Roots

We are thrilled to share the wonderful art project our talented Year 6 girls have embarked on this week. The girls created artwork inspired by the art forms from their migrants' countries. Alongside their creations, they wrote thoughtful pieces detailing the link between their artwork and their migrants' cultural heritage.

Immersing themselves in the diverse art traditions of their migrants' countries, the girls crafted vibrant paintings, intricate sculptures, and more. Each piece incorporated elements unique to their chosen country's art style.

In their accompanying written pieces, the girls described the significance of their artwork, connecting it to the rich cultural tapestry of their migrants' countries. These narratives showcased their understanding of the historical and artistic importance of each art form. The art project not only showcased the girls' creativity but also deepened their appreciation for their own cultural heritage. It allowed them to explore, understand, and celebrate the diverse backgrounds that shape their identities.

Year 3 Strings Concert

On Monday evening, the Year 3 class performed in a concert for their parents, friends and other family members. Since the start of 2023, all students in Year 3 have been learning a string instrument; either a Violin, Viola, Cello or Double Bass. Specialist string tutors Heather Lander, Louis Cann, and Maeve Edwards, with the assistance of music teacher Lisa Schulz, have run this Year 3 String Immersion Program. This program teaches string instruments in small groups, and the class play together as a string ensemble. The Year 3 girls were so professional on the stage, and all the students in the class also performed either a solo, duet or trio. We were also lucky enough to have a guest performance by the Junior String Ensemble, who rehearse on Tuesday mornings. Congratulations to the Year 3 girls for a wonderful evening.
