There have been many events in the last few weeks where we have seen our Loreto Community shine. Firstly, I think this year’s Performing Arts Festival (PAF) was the best I have ever seen (don’t mention this to Old Scholars) - the creativity, leadership displayed by the girls, and spirit of the girls was just beautiful to witness, and the spontaneous dancing by the girls at the end of the evening was an image that will forever stay with me.
This was followed by Pink Day last Friday. Whilst it is a well-known fact that pink is my favourite colour and therefore Pink Day is my second favourite event (after PAF), this Pink Day in particular was full of Loreto Spirit and superbly led by our student leaders, and worthy to note we also beat Rostrevor in a game of Netball (our girls are pretty competitive). Whilst the focus of Pink Day had a serious tone, to raise awareness and funds for Breast Cancer, it also was fun and engaging and involved the whole school community.
Last Friday evening I was also privileged to see the Year 11 and 12 play, which I thought was absolutely superb, and I say this with complete honesty as someone who has spent decades teaching Senior English. Friday was certainly a busy day and just to finish the night off, I called into the Loreto Year 7 and 8 Social, and all I can say about this is they were very cute…oh, to be 13 again…
Community events have continued in full swing this week, with a wonderful Year 3 Strings Concert, a presentation to parents as part of our SEAD Program on raising body confident children and teens, and an outstanding performance by our Year 12 Music students on Thursday night. On Sunday we celebrate Confirmation and Holy Communion with our Junior School girls and next Tuesday is our Year 5 Band Concert. Luckily, we have the school holidays coming up as I think we will all need to have a bit of a rest!
We also held a Liturgy on Monday to say goodbye to two very special members of our Loreto school community, Sr Diaan Stuart and Sr Verna Hayes ibvm. Both Sr Diaan and Sr Verna have had a very long history with Loreto Marryatville, as past Principal and past teacher respectively. Both Sisters have been instrumental in shaping Loreto College Marryatville in the past and we will miss their presence in South Australia.
