Staff Retreat!

By Kathryn Donker

Monday, 13th April

If laughter is the best medicine then BHCS is an extremely healthy environment.

As a member of the BHCS community maybe you've heard or read amazing reports about this place and wondered can it really be that impressive. Well, yes, it can!

Not to say there isn't always room for improvement or development. Hence it isn't only students who spend days learning, sometimes (lots of times) staff do too.

Amazing learning happens in amazing ways and an Amazing Race through Melbourne CBD for the morning of Day 1, Term 2 provided unexpected opportunities to laugh and learn about myself and others. Who would have thought part-time work at BHCS would involve dramatic recitations of Shakespeare on the steps of Parliament building or re-enacting Julie Andrews in the Sound of Music before a bemused public outside the State Library.

Afternoon learning facilitated by Peter and Suzie Botross was no less entertaining as staff examined the topic of Expectations. Hidden in the abundant laughter were challenges to ponder and explore immediately and indefinitely, as individuals and as a community.  Do I really serve as unto the Lord? Do I consistently give others the benefit of the doubt when their values may differ from mine? Do I take up the challenge to have the difficult conversations when expectations differ?

Above all what do I expect of myself and why? Team t-shirts and our school motto give the ultimate answer - Micah 6:8 'He has shown you o man what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with our God.'
