Principal's Report

Principal Newsletter Report Term 2 Week 9

As Term 2 comes to a close, it’s important to acknowledge the range of activities and events that have been occurring recently at Epping Secondary College.  This has included an extensive camps program with trips in Term 2 for our Year 7, 9, 10 and 11 Year levels.  Our VCE-VM class have been practising their coffee making skills as they complete their Barista course, and last Friday our Yr12 students had their Senior School Formal.

On behalf of our students, families and Principal Team, I would like to extend a huge thank you to our dedicated staff members who made these events possible over the last few weeks.

Student Mobile Phones

We have a significant number of students who bring mobile phones to school each day, for use both before and after school.

It is both Department and school policy for those phones to be stored securely in lockers throughout the entire school day, this includes recess and lunchtime.

Phones that are seen during the school day will be confiscated from students, and can be collected at the end of the school day.  Where this is a first breach of our policy, students may collect the phone.  Subsequent breaches will require the phone to be collected by a parent/carer.  All collections will be after the school day ends at 3:00pm.

By adhering to this policy, we can ensure that student phones are kept safe and not misused when at school.

Student Reporting and Parent Teacher Conferences

Parents and Carers are reminded that all student reports for Semester 1 are now available through XUNO.  If you are yet to have a look at your child’s report, we encourage you to log on to XUNO and have a look over the weekend ahead.

In our first week back in Term 3, we will be holding Parent Teacher Conferences for our Yr11 and 12 students on the afternoon of Wednesday 12th July.  This is a particularly important time for our Yr12 students who are heading into the final stretch of their studies and a chance to work with their teachers to set students up for success in their forthcoming exams for students completing the VCE.

A reminder to our Year 7-10 students and families, that three-way conferences between students/parents and teachers will be held on Thursday 24th August.  On this day no classes will be running as students are asked to attend interviews that all teachers across the school will be involved in.  Further details, including how to book will be provided to families later in Term 3.

These conferences are a great opportunity to meet with your child's teacher and to formally discuss your child's progress at school, and to also make us aware of any issues that are of interest or concern.

In addition to being an invaluable source of information for both parents and teachers, our conference also reinforce to our students the importance and value of the home-school partnership in creating and ensuring a successful school experience.

We strongly recommend that students are part of this conversation and as such no classes will ruin on this day to allow students to join their parents and teachers for the individual conference discussions.

Happy Holidays

As we make it towards the final days of Term 2, I would like to take this opportunity to thank our parents, students, staff and broader community for their ongoing support of our school.

Our team have worked hard this term to support the positive engagement of students and to ensure the academic, social and emotional development of each student.  This isn’t possible without us all working together and in the same direction, so thank you.

We hope that you all enjoy the school holiday break and look forward to seeing all students back at school on Tuesday 11 July.
