Italian Poetry Competition
DANTE ALIGHIERI ITALIAN POETRY COMPETITION
POETRY PERFECTIONISTS
On Wednesday the 7th of June, a group of 28 year nine Italian students embarked on a unique experience, the Dante Alighieri Italian Poetry Recitation Competition. Poetry recitation is no longer a feature in schools, but many grandparents and great-grandparents still remember poems that they learned off by heart.
Poetry is a window to the soul, a portal to the very core of human emotion, and its recitation a celebration of the human condition.
This prestigious event has been running since 1961 and attracts thousands of students from both public and private schools. This year our students shone, with many obtaining high distinctions, certificates of excellence and honourable mentions.
The Italian department at ESC is so proud of these students and their marvellous achievements. Congratulations to our poetry ambassadors who include Mustafa Al Jarahy, Hine Ata, Jean Barden, Lachlan Barker, Kenny Bui, Joseph Catamio, Isaac Hamada, Naomee Hoeboer, Maryanna Karzis, Ayden and Maddison Lagana, Tyler McDonald, Rory Martin, Ace McGuane, Kouper Muscat, Thomas Musgrove, Michelle Nguyen, Michaela Oddo, Aliesha Ryan, Ian Samson, Molly Sawyer, Pele Stevens and Fatima Tahir.
A special mention is reserved for our two exemplary finalists, Yuri Anwar and Ana Pupavac, who have an opportunity to compete again in July. Bravissimi!
