Stories from the Library

Stories from the Library | The New Chapter Begins…

After eighteen months of work and planning by many people – architects, school leadership, Catholic Education Tasmania, and library staff – building of our exciting new library should commence very soon. The plans for this building look incredible and it will provide another innovative new facility for our entire school community.

As we look forward to moving into our completed new library by the end of the year, if all goes to plan, students have immersed themselves in the many new books already purchased. It is encouraging to see so many students excited about old and new favourites and enthusiastically participating in the Premier’s Reading Challenge. Students can continue to fill in their Premier’s Reading Challenge forms during the school holidays. These forms will be collected on Monday 14th August. Awards for reading will be given during our Book Week Parade on Tuesday 22nd August.

Senior students have enjoyed looking at William Joyce’s amazing book, The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore, and watching the inspiring short film based on this story. The film, which has won many awards, including an Academy Award for the Best Animated Short Film, transforms the art of storytelling into a powerful multimedia experience about the magic of books, the power of storytelling, and the importance of libraries.

Junior students have explored the value of books and reading through the magical adventures of Mr Leopard’s Bookshop, a heart-warming story with an unusual bookseller. Middle school students have continued to learn about the importance of caring for our natural world and our endangered species through the informative story, One Potoroo, A Story of Survival.

We look forward to moving into our custom-designed library in the heart of the school and continuing our invigorating literary journey.
