EEP Program Semester 1 Update

The Heathmont Extension and Enrichment Program (EEP) focuses on providing students that have applied to the program a variety of opportunities to be challenged academically through a variety of activities, incursions and excursions. The purpose of the program is to ensure that students maximize their learning through these experiences and gain a better understanding of a variety of learning styles to further maximize their learning potential.

Earlier in Term 1 Year 7 EEP students went to the ACMI museum to explore the Light and Sound Exhibit. Students explored and learnt about the history of cinema and how the visuals and sounds we take for granted today were developed throughout history. Students also took the time to explore Melbourne CBD with some Year 7 students exhibiting inclination for music at Melbourne Central’s piano. It was great to see Alice and Alan entertaining the general public with their musical talent.

EEP students also competed in the Maths Olympiad throughout Semester 1 where they worked with other schools in the area. This unique opportunity allowed students to mingle with other like-minded students from a nearby school as they competed in a team competition to try and solve complex mathematical and logic problems.

Year 7 and 8 EEP students also had an incursion where they participated in a rocket construction and testing exercise at school with a KIOSC program where lessons on rocketry was a focus. Students were taught the principles of flight and how rockets work before designing their own. Students later tested their designs out on the school oval with the rocket design from Heidi Carroll and Sharon Cinzah’s a particular stand out.

EEP students will also be participating in both another Maths competition and Computer Coding Challenge later this term. We look forward to providing updates on their achievements as well as more excursions this coming semester.
