Butterfly adventures

River room had some unlikely visitors but exciting ones at that-BUTTERFLIES! This was a final touch to the river room bugs program they had been exploring within the room. The children were invited to listen to a story about the butterfly life cycle, try one some wings and have a dance while spreading their wings! The butterfly handler then had some exciting news...the butterflies decided to come with her for a visit and not only that but we would all be able see and hold them (wow!) She set up her special tent and a few children at a time were able to head in and experience the butterflies. Some of them were quite friendly and flew onto children's heads, hands and parts of the tent for us all to admire.

Henny Hatchling

The Henny Hatchling program was a program within our Field room Kindergarten and fortunately the River Room children were able to take up the opportunity to learn about the chicks too! The Educators would take up the opportunity to bring in the chicks for a visit for the children to explore what they feel like, talk about them and enjoy their company. Of course, a few children were unsure with some being more interested than others but still took the opportunity to watch...from a distance! The chicks were at haven for 2 weeks from their incubator coming out of their shells to confident little hatchlings running around. They are now happily altogether on one of our educators properties.

Earth day

Sun room have been exploring many opportunities this term with one being earth day. Earth Day is an international day devoted to our planet. It draws attention to the environment and promotes conservation and sustainability. It is held each year on the 22nd of April, and there many ways classrooms and homes can help out! Earth day has a theme each year and this year was "Invest in our planet" for the week of the 22nd Sun room dedicated extra time to investing in their worm farm, the children added scraps from the days meals particularly morning tea-our worms love fruit scraps! The children also got an introduction to the colours of the world and made "mini worlds" with the colours green and blue.

Anzac day

Anzac Day is our day of national commemoration. It is celebrated on Tuesday 25 April in memory of our Anzacs. This year  for Anzac Day sunroom  had a sensory experience focusing on the colours red and green, had an opportunity to paint poppies, and read Anzac Ted at group time! The children could choose to colour in Anzac Ted if they wanted too throughout the day as well. What a lovely wat to acknowledge this special day through play.

Mothers Day afternoon tea

Mothers day afternoon tea was celebrated and a big highlight of forest room's term! It would absolutely wonderful seeing all mums, grandmas, and special people in each of the children's lives! Not only was this a beautiful opportunity to share in moments altogether within the room but also a great way to build on secure attachment's and sense of belonging. There was food, arts and crafts, an opportunity to explore the indoor and outdoor yards, laughter and to create moments to cherish.

Road safety week

National Road Safety Week is an annual initiative from the Safer Australian Roads and Highways Group that looks to raise awareness around road safety and ways to reduce incidents on the road and how we can stay safe when we are near them.  Forest discussed the The following important points:

- Holding hands with a trusted adult when crossing the road

- Stop, look, listen, think rules before crossing a road

- The traffic light signals and what the colours mean

- The importance of wearing our seatbelt in the car

To help the children grasp these concepts forest room listened to two short songs . We also created our very own traffic lights in a pasting activity to continue their discussions around the different colours and what they mean on our roads.

Re-Care

Throughout term 2 we have had the pleasure of collaborating with the elderly citizens from Re-Care. We are fortunate that Re-Care is just across the road from Haven. The field room didn't know what to expect as they made their way over but knew it would be a great opportunity not to be missed! All the children were welcomed by big smiles, dancing and a live band. The band played the Hokey Pokey, the chicken dance and many other songs which the children, teachers and the elderly group participated in. We thought this was a great introduction to the program. We were invited to share in some morning tea which was a yummy fruit platter with croissants and read a story with Fil. Fil also works within a school and appeared beyond excited to read the children "The Sleepy Train" by Mark Marshall. It was very heart-warming to watch the children so invested in the story, games and the questions Fil asked them.
