Student Voice and Leadership

Together For Humanity Youth Summit 2023

On 18 July, a team of 10 Student representatives attended the inaugural Youth Summit hosted by Together For Humanity at Melbourne University.

Melton Secondary College Students presented to students and teachers from fifteen schools, local politicians and community members on the topic of diversity and inclusion. Our student leaders had researched the issue of access to cultural resources within the Melton Community, and produced a short video that included census data, survey results and interview responses from community members.

Well done to the young leaders involved!

Peer Support Mentorship Program

The Peer Support Program is back for Term 3!

Last term, year 10 mentors began working with a group of year 7 students. The mentors have been building connections, teaching our mentees about resilience and growth mindset, and providing support to the year 7 mentees.

Keep an eye out for the next Melton Mail for some student reflections on their experiences as mentors and mentees after the program concludes in week 7!

Toastmasters – Youth Leadership Program

The Toastmasters program is a public speaking training program for young people.

Melton Secondary College has been able to offer this program in term 3 to student leaders, and we have already had our first two sessions. Our students have been working on presenting prepared speeches, giving and receiving feedback on their public speaking, and chairing meetings.

A special shout out to Anyang Wal for volunteering to chair the first student-led meeting, and doing an absolutely stellar job!
