Welcome back!  We hope the kids are well rested after the holiday break and are ready to dive into more learning and fun at Croydon Hills.

NAIDOC WEEK

NAIDOC Week was celebrated during the holidays (July 2 - 9th) with the theme ‘For Our Elders’. Please see the article on the Wellbeing & Culture page to read more about this important event.  We will also be marking NAIDOC Week at our Whole School Assembly this Friday (2:45pm in the stadium)-  We welcome all parents and carers and look forward to seeing you there if you can attend.

School drop offs and pick ups

Supervision in the yard begins at 8:45am in the morning and extends to 3:45pm in the afternoon.  For their safety, we ask that students are not dropped off before 8:40am.  Also, while we understand that unexpected events sometimes occur and traffic can cause issues, please ensure you aim to collect your child by 3:45pm at the latest.  Any students not picked up by this time, will be directed to wait at the office to be picked up.  A reminder that you can book in for our before and after school care program if required.

Myuna Farm Excursion

On Wednesday, the Preps had a day full of adventure at Myuna Farm. This provided students with real-life experiences to support their learning related to their ‘On the Farm’ Inquiry unit.   They say cows, sheep, pigs, rabbits, goats, kangaroos, emus and even a camel!  Thanks to the Prep teachers and parent helpers who made this such a great day for our little students.

Mini-Boss Incursion

To support their learning throughout their Design, Creativity & Technology unit, known as 'The Brief', Senior students were involved in  a 2.5 hour 'kickstarter' event run by the company MiniBoss.

The Brief gives students an industry-based learning experience in the classrooms, with the opportunity to be innovative, creative and enterprising while addressing a real world challenge of designing and marketing a new product for 13 to 18 year olds. In teams, students will brainstorm, design, create, market and pitch their product to teachers and peers. Rewards and prizes are on the line with team products showcased at the finale, a 'Trade Show Extravaganza' complete with judges and voting.

CERES Excursion

The Year 3 students also had an excursion on Wednesday.  They visited CERES Environment Park in Brunswick, to support their learning through the inquiry unit, ‘What Does it Mean to be Green’.  Maybe ask your child what they learnt about ways we can all be more sustainable and mindful of our environmental impact in our day-to-day lives. Again, thank you to the teachers for all their organisation and efforts on the day.  These events could not happen without the support of our wonderful parents who come along to help on the day.

Parent-student-teacher conference - starting next week.

One final reminder to book in with your classroom teacher for a parent-student-teacher conference through Compass if you haven’t already.  Note that in Prep, the conferences take the form of a parent-teacher interview and  students are not required to attend. We look forward to celebrating Semester 1 success and discussing next steps in your child’s learning.
