Forest School

Fire week at Forest School!
As we call in the light with the Winter Solstice almost upon us it is the perfect time to have FIRE WEEK! It's been very exciting and rewarding to see the children participating in activities that revolve around fire. We have been practising being safe in our sacred fire circle so were ready to go!
Grade 3/4s were lighting their own fires using flint and steel and if they managed to maintain a flame they cooked marshmallows on their mini-fires! It was a great challenge and a lot of fun.
Grade 1/2s participated in lighting and attending to a larger fire and enjoyed finding the perfect stick to roast their marshmallows with!
Foundation/Grade 1s were lucky enough to wrap snakes of damper dough around their sticks then cook it over coals. They enjoyed their damper with honey and jam dripping down their chins!
Jason our Fire Guardian on Tuesday, (otherwise known as Owen and Archer's dad), was an absolute legend tending to the fire. Thank you so much Jason, we couldn't possibly have cooked our damper without you! Our Fire Guardian on Wednesday was River (mum to Lullaby). Thank you River, our marshmallows roasted perfectly! The presence of these gorgeous parents meant all of these wonderful activities were possible.
I am seeking a 'Fire Guardian' for the Grade 5/6 classes next week, Wednesday June 21, to enable us to practise lighting our own fires.
Please email me if you can attend: Sarah.Kline@education.vic.gov.au
Thanks!
