Welcome back to Term 3

It is always good to welcome a new term! As always, the coming one is packed with exciting learning activities and opportunities for all our students, including our first ever Indonesian Cultural Trip leaving this Saturday and our Secondary Production later in August. We pray for God’s blessing and protection over the coming weeks.

Principal Announcement

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Mrs Michelle Dempsey as the next Principal of Mt Evelyn Christian School. She will commence in 2024. Please see the next page in this newsletter for all the details!

Staff Meetings

You might be interested to know what our teaching staff do when your children go home each day. Well, we have just published our schedule of meetings for this term. Over the coming weeks, over 25 different meetings have been scheduled! Generally, these happen on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday afternoons, and can range from whole staff meetings, section meetings, conversations around specific issues or topics, right through to collaborative planning and reporting. Our teachers and learning assistants are working hard to provide the best and most appropriate teaching and learning opportunities that they can, and these meetings are pivotal in making sure they have the time and support needed to do this.

Staff News

At the end of last term, we farewelled Ella Livett and Richelle Hoogenraad from our Secondary teaching team. We wish them both all the best as they pursue new opportunities of service. We are thankful that Katrina Ford is stepping into Ella’s science role, and a combination of existing staff will be covering the Secondary art program for the rest of the year.

Kinder parents were also informed last week that our Kindergarten Director, Wendy Mason, will be retiring at the end of the year. She is presently enjoying some long service leave, but we will begin the process of finding her replacement on her return.

We look forward to sharing more staff news with you over the coming weeks as we prepare and plan for 2024.

Enrolment Interviews

My diary is full of enrolment interviews at the moment, enrolments for next year, and as far out as 2025/6! It’s great to be able to confirm together that partnering together in Christian education is going to produce the best outcome for their children. I love it when children pump their fist with excitement or smile happily at their parents or even shed a few tears when they know they are coming to MECS. Research tells us that our present families are our best source of marketing when it comes to influencing others about the choice of schooling for their children. Whilst we are busy at the moment confirming enrolments, there is still room in a number of year levels next year and beyond so please encourage your family and friends to come and chat to us if they are interested in future enrolments.
