Principal's Report

From The Prinicpal

It is hard to believe that the first half of the school year is nearly over. It only seems like yesterday that the first day of school was here and students were settling in to a new school year.  Six months later it is time to look back and see the progress that has happened, as well as looking forward to setting new goals for the second half of the year.

Teachers are busy writing reports as you read this newsletter and Friday June 16th is a student free day to provide teachers with further time to complete their reports. Reports will be published on Friday 29th  June  and can then be accessed online via Compass.  Please contact the office if you require assistance in accessing the reports. It is extremely important that you sit down with you child and read the reports closely it will assist them to identify what they have done well this semester and areas for improvement for semester 2.

Year 9, 10 and 11 students are working towards their end of semester exams and Year 12 students (and those year 11s studying a Unit 3 & 4 subject) have the General Achievement Task coming up on June 14th. The GAT is an extremely important assessment tool used by VCAA when final subject scores are awarded and we are confident that our students will aim to achieve their very best on the test this year. I encourage all students to prepare thoroughly for these exams so that their results are a true indication of what they have achieved in semester 1.

Student Attitudes to School Survey

We value student voice as a means of improving student engagement, wellbeing and quality instruction at Carwatha College P 12 and are conducting a survey to find out what your child thinks of our school. The Attitudes to School survey is an annual student survey offered by the Department of Education and Training to assist schools in gaining an understanding of students' perceptions and experience of school. Our school will use the survey results to plan programs and activities to improve your child's schooling experience.

This will be the fourteenth year that the survey has been offered, although this year for the first time it will be an online survey and the Department has updated the survey to include important new measures that are known to influence student engagement and performance. Students from Year 4 to 12 at our school will participate in the survey over the next few weeks. The survey takes approximately 20 minutes to compete and all responses to the survey are anonymous. The survey results will be reported back to the school in July and will be communicated to parents through the Annual Report.

Carwatha College P 12 Facebook  Page

There is a lot of activity happening on our Facebook page with numerous posts which demonstrate the wonderful work that is being done here at our school by staff and students. I would encourage you to look for that and keep abreast of events and achievements at the school. Thanks to Donna Azzopardi who is coordinating the page for us and to the staff and students for all their work. Further details on how to follow our FACEBOOK Page can be found in the newsletter.

Traffic Management

The recent arrival of cold weather has seen an increase in the number of students being driven to school. This has resulted in significant congestion and safety concerns during drop off and pick up time. Members of our school community are encouraged to:

- Use designated car spaces only

- Do not pick up/drop off students in no standing zones

- Do not enter the College Car Park to pick up or drop off

- When riding a bike, students are to wear a helmet and walk the bike across the crossing

Students will be dismissed at 2.30 on Friday June 30th.

Term 3 commences on Monday July 17th.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish all of our families a safe, relaxing and enjoyable break.
