The Leader In Me

WE ARE INDEED A LIGHTHOUSE SCHOOL!

I just cannot believe that the term is nearly over. We have accomplished so much in just a short space of time. Some of the highlights include:

As a Junior School, we have set our Wildly Important Goals, selected the Student Lighthouse Team, celebrated staff milestone events, and enjoyed our whole day leadership event with our Year 5 leaders.

Our Junior School Leaders participated in the National Young Leaders Day and are ready to share their experiences with their peers!

The Social Justice Coin Trail was a huge success today, with our Year 5 Social Justice Leaders inspiring the school student body to reach out and assist children in need. This year our student body raised over $1580.00 towards the Good Friday Appeal and the Royal Children’s Hospital. What an amazing effort!

  • Having received a government garden giant, the Year 4 children and teachers created our ‘Smiling Garden’ in the inner courtyard. A huge thank you to Mrs Ambre Borneman and Mrs Sarah Caffrey for scaffolding the learning and taking charge of the project. Leadership principles were integrated within the inquiry approach to learning and the students were thrilled to be involved. We are waiting for confirmation of the official date regarding the opening ceremony!
  • Students have had a wonderful start to the year and this was clearly evident in their Student Leadership Folders. Both Mrs Cummins and I were thrilled with the content and the level of pride students took in presenting their folders to us.  Content included our 7 Habits Agreements, classroom mission statements, academic goals, personal goals, work samples, certificates and data tracking. Students are already working towards being prepared for their Student Led Interviews in Term 3. Incredible achievements and such a high standard across the entire Junior School, from Prep to Year 5.
  • On a final note an email will be sent in Term 2, inviting parents and friends of Oakleigh Grammar to attend our all day workshop for the ‘7 Habits of Highly Effective Parents’. This event is offered annually and gives deep insight into the principles behind our personal and interpersonal effectiveness.

Enjoy the upcoming holidays, keep safe and encourage each other to be ‘all you can be!’

We are indeed a Lighthouse School.
