EISM Division 3 Swimming Carnival

Oakleigh Grammar created sporting history by winning the EISM Division 3 Swimming Carnival for the first time since entering the EISM Sporting Association in 1998. It was a very proud day for students, staff and parents as the hard work put into our swimming program over the last few years continues to reap rewards.      

 

Our swimming captains Christopher James Mertikas (Year 12) and Jenna Menelaou (Year 11) led our team well, and proudly accepted the trophies at the official presentation.

 

As well as winning the Overall Swimming Carnival Trophy, Oakleigh Grammar also won:

  • 3 x Age Group Premierships (Under 13 Boys, Under 14 Boys & Open Girls)
  • Girls Aggregate Trophy (Most points for all Girls Age Groups)
  • Most Improved School Trophy (Highest increase in points compared to the previous year - 3rd year in a row)

On an individual level, Oakleigh Grammar had a number outstanding performers. The following students excelled in their age group:

 

Michael Kaniadakis (Year 8) Under 13 Boys

Michael won all four of his individual events (50m Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke & Butterfly), and also placed 1st in the three relays he swam. Michael set new Oakleigh Grammar swimming records for all four of his individual events.

 

Georgianna Petridis (Year 7) Under 13 Girls

Georgianna won her 50m Backstroke event, was 2nd in the 50m Freestyle and Breaststroke events, and 3rd in the 50m Butterfly. She also picked up two 1st and a 2nd in the relay events she swam. Georgianna also broke some Oakleigh Grammar swimming records in the 50m Freestyle, 50m Backstroke and the 50m Breaststroke.  

 

Emily Hall (Year 8) Under 14 Girls

Emily won the Under 14 Girls 50m Backstroke and was 2nd in her Freestyle event. Emily was also a member of the 5 x 50m All Age Girls Freestyle Relay Team that placed 1st.   

 

Alexander Kotsirilos (Year 8) Under 14 Boys

Alexander won the Under 14 Boys 50m Backstroke. He was also a member of the Under 14 Boys Medley Relay Team that placed 1st.

 

Jeremy Micallef (Year 11) Under 16 Boys

Jeremy won the Under 16 Boys 50m Freestyle and Breaststroke events, and placed 2nd in the Open Boys 100m Freestyle and 50m Butterfly events. He was also a member of the 5 x 50m All Age Boys Freestyle Relay Team that placed 1st. Jeremy also set new Oakleigh Grammar swimming records in the Under 16 Boys 50m Breaststroke and Butterfly events.

 

Anastasia Anastopoulos (Year 10) Under 16 & Open Girls

Ana won the Under 16 Girls 50m Breaststroke event and was also a member of the Open Girls Medley and Freestyle Relay Teams that placed 1st.     

 

Christopher James Mertikas (Year 12) Open Boys

CJ won the Open Boys 50m Backstroke event and place 2nd in the 50m Freestyle. He also swam the anchor leg in the 5 x 50m All Age Boys Freestyle Relay Team that placed 1st.

 

Jenna Menelaou (Year 11) Open Girls

Jenna placed 1st in the Open Girls 50m Freestyle, Backstroke and Butterfly events. She was also a member of the Open Girls Medley and Freestyle Relay Teams that placed 1st. Jenna also swam the anchor leg in the 5 x 50m All Age Girls Freestyle Relay Team that placed 1st.

 

Oakleigh Grammar had 32 students qualify in 37 events at the EISM Champions Swimming Carnival.

EISM Champions Swimming Carnival

Oakleigh Grammar had its best every swimming result at this year’s EISM Champions Swimming Carnival, which took place at MSAC last Monday evening. Oakleigh Grammar won eight medals and three 4th places.   

 

Congratulations to the following students who achieved outstanding performances in their events:

Michael Kaniadakis (Year 8) became our first swimmer to achieve two gold medals at this elite swimming carnival.

1st Place - Under 13 Boys 50m Freestyle (28.41 sec) 

1st Place - Under 13 Boys 50m Backstroke (35.97 sec). New school record

3rd Place - Under 13 Boys 50m Breaststroke (41.51 sec)

3rd Place - Under 13 Boys 4 x 50m Medley Relay (Butterfly leg)

EISM Senior Summer Season Grand Finals

Congratulations to the Senior Girls Volleyball A and B Teams, who both won EISM Premierships last week. This highlights the incredible depth we have built up in Girls Volleyball over the last few years. Both teams went through the entire season (including the Grand Final) without dropping a set.

 

Senior Girls Volleyball A Team defeated Alphington Grammar 3 sets to 0 (25-21, 25-21, 25-22) in the Grand Final. Samantha Kagarakis (Year 12) won the Grand Final MVP medallion, as judge by the opposition team.

The Senior Girls Volleyball B Team defeated Rudolf Steiner 3 sets to 0 (25-16, 25-12, 25-20) in the Grand Final. Alexandra Bonney was adjudged Grand Final MVP by the opposition team Rudolf Steiner.

Junior School House Cross Country

On Friday 16th March students from Year 3 to Year 6 competed in the annual Oakleigh Grammar House Cross Country Carnival which was held at Murrumbeena Park.

 

All year levels ran a 2km course which allowed them to gain points for their House, and some extra fitness. This event also served as selected trials for the upcoming Bentleigh District Cross Country Carnival, which will be held next Term on Tuesday 8th May. All students performed well and gave it their best efforts.      

 

On Monday evening, Michael Kaniadakis (Year 8) became our first swimmer to achieve two gold medals at an EISM Champions Swimming Carnival.
