MFG Swimming Sports 2020
On Tuesday 11th of February we walked down to Kardinia Pool for our annual swimming carnival.
We were lucky enough to get a nice warm day considering the random weather we have been experiencing this summer. It was fantastic to see so many students in attendance supporting their house, by either swimming or cheering on their team mates.
There were a wide range of costumes on show supporting our ‘GOAT- Greatest of All Time’ theme and even many of our staff members getting into the spirit of dressing up.
The winning house this year was Freeman on 531 points. They defeated Gilmore on 463, closely followed by Lipson on 422 and Beachley on 408.
A big thanks goes out to all the MFG Staff and this year’s House Captains on making the day such a success.
Individual Champions were:
13Yr- Sarah Provilij (Gilmore)
14Yr- Isobelle Day (Gilmore)
15Yr- Alice Moon (Lipson)
16Yr- Olivia Platt (Lipson)
17Yr- Hannah Watson (Gilmore)
20Yr- Lani Puttyfoot (Freeman)
The diving champions were:

Health and Wellbeing - Exercise
Hello,
We all know the benefits of exercise for physical health, but what I think is important is the focus that should be placed on wellbeing and how being physically active benefits many areas of our life.
As teenage girls pass through adolescence, young women are opting out of physical activity, more so than males of the same age.
Matthew Flinders has some great opportunities to get involved in team sports – just chat with one of your friendly HAPE teachers on suggestions of teams that are current or upcoming at school.
The physical activity that young women choose, does not have to just be a team sport – the focus is on finding something that you enjoy doing which in turn will motivate you to continue. The emphasis is on giving it a go and having fun, such as, walking with a friend, a frisbee game, kicking a football, gym class, yoga or dancing.
See below a link to an article on recognising the barriers of physical activity for teenage girls and how to encourage participation.
