Media and Communications Subcommittee

Social media, without a doubt is becoming extremely prominent in modern day society and serves as a highly efficient means to communicate with a large audience, all at the touch of a button. Our most recent development and endeavour is to maximise the use of the John Monash Science School Instagram page; where we will strive to keep you updated with important upcoming events, provide active insight to life and ongoing projects at JMSS and utilise the potential of social media to the most we can.

For those who are unaware, Instagram serves as a social platform where users can share photos with other individuals – perhaps to show the world amazing views from the top of a mountain or maybe even creating a digital library of everything they eat.

Students can follow us and keep up to date with our latest developments and outreaches by accessing the Instagram app (available on iOS and Android), searching for 'officialjmss' (without brackets) and tapping the big blue follow button. It only takes a matter of seconds to follow us and constantly stay up to date!

Whatever the case may be, “a picture speaks more than a thousand words,” and we at the Media and Communications Subcommittee intend to capture the light from moments that will never be forgotten and exhibit them for the entire student community to enjoy.

Performing Arts Subcommittee

The Performing Arts Subcommittee, along with the help of the Music Captains are delighted to announce that we will be holding more lunchtime concerts due to active participation and amazing performances in our previous concerts in term one. We are really looking forward to giving talented students in JMSS more opportunities to showcase their talents with their peers.

The Autumn Soiree is  just around the corner. Many students and groups, such as the Quintet, will be performing. Everyone is welcome to come and enjoy a wonderful night on the John Monash ground floor. The Soirée starts at 7pm and there is no need to book and no entry fee, but donations are welcome at the door. Students who would like to play are encouraged to sign up for performing on the night. Sign-up sheets will be sent soon, stay tuned for more information!

The Battle of the Bands sign-ups will also be sent very soon, so students, get your bands together to begin practicing next term!

Harmony Day

Over the last couple of weeks Interact has been abuzz with preparations for Harmony Day, which will be held on May 15th. This year, Interact has put a twist on the traditional cultural lunch and we are proud to present JMSS's first 'Cultural Cuisine Competition'. We are encouraging students to bring a plate of their culture’s culinary treasures to share with the school - and vie for the title of 'Cultural Cuisine Champion'! From curries to crepes, from satays to scones - the options are endless and we hope that everyone gets involved and makes this unique event a success. Food will be sold to other students at lunchtime and the money will be donated to charity.

In what is also sure to become a Harmony Day tradition, Interact members got creative on Thursday and made a large world map on which students will be able to place a pin to indicate their family's origins. The map will be displayed on Harmony Day and will be a tribute to the great diversity present in our school. A special mention to Jess Woolley, Kim Wright, Jay Darcy and Sarah Nguyen for their excellent work.
