Pi Day

Year 7 Activity Day

Friday we got on our 3.141’s to celebrate Pi Day. All week the Year 7’s were waiting with anticipation for the big day. On the day there were multiple activities such as: The Amazing Race, Letters and Numbers, Math Relay and Math Trivia. Each homeroom was split into groups of 7 with each group striving to hit top gear. We developed problem solving skills, effectiveness and teamwork. Each team participated and represented their homerooms outstandingly well. After the last activity we came out with heavy heads from the long day of problem solving and fun. After demolishing our delicious pies, we got right into the Pi Recital with Dominic Dyer from 7.3  winning by reciting Pi to an outstanding 160 decimal places. It was a sensational day overall and thanks to all the teachers that put in so much time to make this the the day it was.

I trust that after such a full on day all of us slept well that night.

On Friday the 20th of July the Year 7 students participated in a day dedicated to Maths. A range of activities and games were played during the day with the different activities educating us about Maths in general. We played Letters and Numbers, the Amazing Race, Maths Relay and Math Trivia with the Year 9’s helping to keep the activities going smoothly. During period 5 we had a contest to see which Year 7 could recite the most numbers of pi the winner, Dominic Dyer from 7.3 recited a staggering one hundred and sixty. In second place was Thomas McKeown and in third place James Both. At lunchtime the whole of Year 7 received a free meat pie and a donut. The amazing CosSinTanO made an impressive entrance and put on a magic show followed by a Year eleven student Marco  Verna who impressed students and staff by solving a Rubik’s cube in a minute and a half. 7.4 were overall class champions and overall Pi Day was a success and enjoyed by the Year 7 students and participating staff.
