Term 2 Football and Soccer report

Term 2 is always busy with the College fielding eight Football teams and five Soccer teams in the Associated Catholic Colleges (ACC) Competition. We have a large number of students involved and nearly 30 staff members volunteering their time to coach the teams.

The highlight of the term was definitely the Grand Final win by our Senior 1st XVIII on the last Wednesday of term. The match was played at Elsternwick Park on a perfect sunny winter’s day which enabled a very high standard game to be played. Our boys dominated the game, leading all day and even though they were inaccurate in front of goal, they managed to defeat Whitefriars College by ten goals.

Final scores: St Bede’s 13.18.96 defeated Whitefriars 5.4.34

The team was led superbly by Nicholas Grech all season and they now progress to the semi-finals of the Herald Sun Shield early next term.

1st XVIII Premiership team:

Nicholas Grech (Capt); Luke Garnaut, Cameron Blitsas, Michael Lewis, Lachlan Lamble, Liam Hayes, Joshua Miller, Blake O’Leary, Austin Johnson, George Grey, Charlie Yee, David Goodman, Noah Beveridge, Kyle Yorke, Liam Segar, Andrew Courtney, Mitchell Tsiros, Nathan Bazzani, Lachlan Carrigan, Harry Kilfoyle, Marcus White, Cameron Taylor and Jake Kovacic. Ryan Byrnes and Miles Bergman were also part of the team, but did not play in the Grand Final due to their Vic Metro commitments.

We are also very lucky to have three highly accredited and experienced coaches who looked after the team this year so a special thanks to Owen Lalor, Guy Martyn and Sam Radford for all the time they have given to Senior Football. Thanks also to ‘MHealth’ in Mentone who provided physiotherapists to attend all our senior football matches.

In other results, our Senior 2nd XVIII, Year 7A and Year 7B Football teams also made Grand Finals, but were unfortunately defeated in their big games. Our Year 9 Soccer team also played in a Grand Final, but were beaten in a thriller against Salesian College.

We now prepare for our Term 3 ACC Sports – Basketball, Hockey, Table Tennis and Cross Country running.
