Teaching and Learning

Japanese

こんにちは!Hello!

During our Japanese lessons the younger students have been learning about Mt Fuji and the main islands of Japan.

We spent our lesson this week taking a virtual trip to Japan using Google Earth. We worked in small groups and got to explore 8 different places in Japan. When we had visited each destination we had our passport stamped by Sachiko Sensei.

It was lots fun!

Sport News

Welcome back!

I hope that you have had a safe and enjoyable break and are looking forward to the second half of the year. We have a really exciting term ahead of us with SAPSASA opportunities in multiple sports, Soccer clinics, Hockey clinics, and of course, our Sports Day in week 9.  I’m just touching base to inform you of what your child/ren will be learning this term in their PE lessons.  Junior primary students will be continuing to focus on their fundamental movement skills; which we will develop throughout a range of games and activities designed to target those particular skills, while we continue to develop our teamwork and cooperation. In the second half of the term and continuing into Term 4 students will focus on understanding movement and how it relates to time, effort and space.

Middle primary students will continue to develop their understanding of movement and how to apply it through our unit of Netball and then Futsal.  Upper Primary students have been working hard on creating their own Sports/games/activities that they will get the opportunity to showcase their learning by teaching their games to junior or middle primary students this term. We will continue our Netball unit before moving onto Futsal.  Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or quires.

Kind regards,

Marley Reid

Wellbeing - Kimochis

What are Kimochis?

KEY.MO.CHEE means “feeling” in Japanese

Kimochis look like toys, but they are actually communication tools that help students manage feelings in positive ways to promote well-being and success in school and life.

Our Junior Primary teachers are using Kimochis – lots of different plush characters and  the Kimochi curriculum in their classrooms to help students become more resilient and get through difficult circumstances.

Using the Kimochis program in classrooms, allows children  to have a voice and to talk about specific behaviours and feelings. We also hope that children will  become more empowered to solve their own problems and this confidence spills over into all areas of our curriculum.

Room 11

In Room 11 last term we continued exploring the concept of liveability by using Maker’s Empire to design aspects of the world’s most liveable city.

We had to research one of the most liveable cities, and use factors of liveability, such as transport, healthcare, education, water and essential services, and access to recreation, to design the perfect city for one of those factors.

Then, we used Maker’s Empire to design and 3D print one small part of a liveable city. We have encountered some difficulties along the way, such as learning how to use Maker’s Empire and some bumps in the road with the printers. We are a persistent bunch though, and will continue to see it through to the end. Here are some of our designs and objects so far:

This term, our technologies learning will involve exploring the design process and discovering computer science.
