FIT TO DRIVE
On the 8th August, the year 11 cohort participated in the annual ‘Fit to Drive’ workshop. It consisted of three individual sessions, each focused on one of three topics. The first session focused on the brainstorming the dangers of behaviours such as being on your phone whilst driving and exploring different opinions from students on the risks of hazardous driving behaviours. The students were able to share their views and experiences on road safety and explored how we can make the road safer in our own lives.
After a break, two officers from the Victorian Police force delivered a formal presentation on their experiences with road incidents, drug drivers and drunk drivers. The officers went over statistics on the most dangerous drivers and gave tips on how to remain safe on the roads. In the last session, the year 11’s heard from a fireman from the Frankston CFA who took the year 11’s through a practical activity where some volunteer students were able to demonstrate the set-up of a tragic road accident that happened in 2019 as a case study. This activity moved into the students sitting within their group and discussing the risk and protective factors on this case study. They looked at what those involved did correctly and what they could have done to prevent the accident from happening. Overall, this workshop was highly educational and offered participants impactful information on how to stay safe on the roads in their lives.
