Music Matters
PAPA news meeting postponed: Our Term 3 PAPA Meeting will now take place next Monday 31 July at 7:00 pm, St Pius X College Music Rooms. All are welcome to come along. This is a great way to hear what is happening in performing arts at the College and meet other families within the Performing Arts community of St Pius X!
Performing Arts Levy: This levy and the Music Instrument Hire fees will be emailed to parents this week via the Try booking link: 2023 SPX Performing Arts Tickets, St Pius X College, CHATSWOOD | TryBooking Australia. We apologise for the lateness of this invoice and would appreciate your prompt payment by Friday 4th August. Please remember this is a one-off fee as per the 2023 Performing Arts handbook for any student involved in private tuition and/or an ensemble (Music, Digital Music and/or Drama) and is charged per student, (not per ensemble/instrument) and covers both semesters. This levy covers the cost of purchasing music, directors’ fees and the purchase and maintenance of instruments.
Private Tuition information – should your child be interested in learning an instrument, including voice, please use this link to submit your request.

Should you wish to cancel tuition, the school policy is to give at least three weeks’ notice as per the Performing Arts handbook and application form. Please discuss this with the music teacher involved, the Private Tuition Coordinator Mr Steve Cummins (scummins@stpiusx.nsw.edu.au) or myself (awesthoff@stpiusx.nsw.edu.au ) as sometimes a change of teacher may also be possible.
HSC Music: Well done to all HSC Music students who came in to school to rehearse their pieces with their accompanists on Sunday. This year, we have a total of 15 individual programs over the three Music courses, with a wide range of repertoire and musical genres being performed at a very high standard. The practical Trials Music assessment takes place next Wednesday 2 August in the Band Room with external examiners. We wish our Year 12’s all the very best.
BAND ROOM CLOSED - WEDNESDAY 2 AUGUST - ALL DAY - including before school starts and at the end of the school day. There will be no access to the Band Room, Chamber Room or Mr Cummins's office due to HSC Music Trials. Please organise to take your instrument home on Tuesday afternoon. All instruments can be left in the Performing Arts Staff Room (below the band room) for the day. The Performing Arts Staff Room will open at 8:00 am and closes at 3:50 pm.

Drama
Well done to the HSC Drama students who performed their final internal examination on Sunday to a packed audience of friends and family. We were lucky to secure two external markers who gave excellent feedback to all students regarding the final improvements needed before the actual HSC Practical Exams in August. The students performed their Group Projects – an original play between 8-12 minutes and their Individual Projects (Major Works) – 9 monologues of between 6-8 minutes, 2 reviews and 1 Video Drama. Congratulations for getting this far, still more work to do but a great foundation for improvement.
Thank you to PAPA for helping on the day and providing the excellent snacks and pizza for the Year 12 students. Also to Isaac Donlevy, James Leo, Dominic Mitchell and Michael Krizan who helped with sound and lights and stage management duties on the day.
Drama Ensemble
All Drama Ensembles will start this week. See you there!
