Committee 4 Wagga Student Leaders Program Graduation

I thoroughly enjoyed the Committee for Wagga program. I loved how the things we learnt were not only applicable within school or a classroom setting but also applicable in everyday life.

I loved learning about the different ways to effectively write a speech but also the different ways that people communicate and operate and how I can adapt to match their style.

The Committee 4 Wagga program was an amazing experience which really opened my eyes to the leader I could be. - Taylor Smyth

Push Up Challenge

In the last two weeks of Term 2, Mater Dei took part in the Push-Up Challenge which aims to raise awareness of the impacts of mental health in Australia. One of our College Captains, Josh Shaw, is especially passionate about mental health and led the event, opening with an electric launch in the hall.

Each morning, guided by senior students, homegroups had conversations about mental health and completed pushups or alternative exercises. These conversations included strategies to look after our mental health, such as exercise, mindfulness and gratitude.

By the end of the two weeks, our College community achieved an amazing 62,000 push ups, led by equal firsts from Sherrin 5 and Webber 5. We had many important conversations about wellbeing and the importance of looking after not only ourselves but checking in with friends as well!

MaterVision

On the last day of Term 2, Kennedy House hosted the inaugural MaterVision Song Contest. The five houses each organised a unique singing and dancing act to perform in front of the College Community in a fun-spirited event. Thank you to all the House Captains, House Leaders, teachers and students involved in making for a great afternoon filled with confetti and questionable vocals. Congratulations to Carroll House for taking out the first edition of the competition with their wild performance of “Welcome To The Jungle”, and winning two thirds of the public vote. We hope to see MaterVision make a return next year!
