Career & VET Report

Edenhope College Work Experience Program

That time of the year, when our Year 10 students venture into the big scary world to explore and experience the world of work. Work experience contributes to better informed careers and pathways options for our young people.

Work experience is the short term placement of secondary school students, generally from Years 9 and 10, with employers to provide insights into the industry and the workplace in which they are located. It provides our students with the valuable opportunity to:

  • Develop employability skills
  • Explore possible career options
  • Understand employer expectations, and
  • Increase their self-understanding, maturity, independence and self confidence.

While undertaking work experience, students will observe different aspects of work within their chosen industry and may assist with tasks allocated by their supervisor, but should not undertake activities which require extensive training or expertise.

Edenhope College students will venture in Week 6 starting Monday 14th August through to Friday 18th August.

Some students due to other commitments, will complete some days in Week 6 and then continue in Week 7. Others will complete further in the term.

We thank the following businesses and organisations for offering to be Host Employers.

  • St Malachy's School: Education
  • J.A. & E.K. Tischler: Farming
  • Grampians Health Edenhope: Health
  • Edenhope Early Childhood Services: Education
  • Rural Veterinary Services, Edenhope & Naracoorte: Animal Studies
  • West Wimmera Shire: Administration, Architecture and Design

The success of the program, and the great opportunities it offers our students, relies upon the generosity and commitment of these businesses and organisations.

Workplace learning activities are an integral part of our students' learning and career development. This is the stage of learning where the Edenhope College can provide their students with access to the Knowledge and skills which all young Australians need as they take their first steps in adult life.
