Rugby League Gala Day

Coal Miner's Cup - Gunnedah

William, Harry and Lachlan competed in the Year 3/4 Tackle Rugby League Day in Gunnedah last Tuesday. All three boys joined a team with the friendly Narrabri Public School and played four games in total. The first game was a win followed by 3 losses however the last game was a tie with tries although the first try scores 5 points as opposed to 4 leaving Gunnedah South School the winners. We thank Luke Taylor from the NRL for organising this popular day with nearly 350 primary school children involved in the day reaching towns from as far away as Walgett. We hope to participate in this event again next year. Many thanks to the parents for transporting their children on the day.

High Jump

Fun in the sun was had by our sporties on Thursday afternoon competing in the high jump event for our Athletics Carnival. The children were very enthusiastic about jumping and there were many showing great sportsmanship.

The heights have been dramatically reduced from previous years to qualify for the Diocesan Carnival held in Tamworth on Friday 18 August. If your child jumped the qualifying height I will send you an email with further information.

Athletics Information

School Athletics Carnival

The School Athletics Carnival is fast approaching and the date is Wednesday 9 August commencing at 9:20am at Jubilee Oval. Children will arrive at school as normal so that rolls can be marked and they will walk to the oval with their teachers. The Compass event has been pushed out to parents today to give permission for their child/ren to attend and walk to Jubilee Oval .

Please Note: There will be no discus this year at the carnival due to safety concerns from a diocesan level as safety nets are now a legal requirement. Children that have official Little A's distances for discus are able to submit towards that event and they can be given to me. The discus event for the school carnival has been swapped for foam javelin with all age groups competing in this on the day.

The PTF will be running a canteen on the day and there will be further details regarding this next week.

A note regarding lunch order and volunteer jobs has been sent home today with each family. Please return the note by the due date for organisational purposes.

Term 3 Sporting School Grant ~ Athletics

As part of the coaching with Andrew Frend, the students will be walking down to Jubilee Oval on Wednesday 2 August for Long Jump practice. There is no permission needed as this is covered by our General Permission for Activities Within Town Limits.

We will be holding the last session for all students this Thursday 3 August, so students will need to wear their sports uniform on both of these days. For those students who qualify for the Diocesan Athletics Carnival in Tamworth, they will be having a final session with Mr Frend on Wednesday 16 August.
