Community Mass

In Week 5, Community Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday instead of the regular Friday morning.

Why the change?

Tuesday 15 August is the Solemnity of the Assumption of Mary, honouring the teaching that Mary, at the end of her life, was ‘assumed body and soul into heavenly glory’. It is a significant day in the Church calendar – also known as a ‘Holy Day of Obligation’.

Why is this feast significant?

Mary’s life and importance is inseparable from the life of Christ. Pope Francis has also emphasised the role of Mary as Mother of the Church, which ‘focuses on Mary’s links to us as well as to God and also points to the links that unite all Christians and all Churches. The Feast of the Assumption enlivens our hope that we shall be with Christ as Mary now is. It promises that after the struggles and losses of this life that we shall find happiness and companionship with God’.[1]

Is anyone able to attend?

Definitely – all are welcome!

Who is preparing the Mass on Tuesday 15th August?

Year 11 students will be preparing this Mass – and the Chapel choir will be leading the singing.  Thank you to all students & staff who are assisting.

Is there a Friday Mass in Week 5?

No. Mass on Tuesday 15 is in lieu of the Friday – no Friday Mass in week 5.
