SCHOOL FEES

School fees are an essential part of how we offer our programs at Collingwood in the main program, Reggio and Steiner classrooms. If payments are not completed we are faced with having to change our teaching plans. It is now that class teachers, and learning areas, are purchasing items for your children to use within their programs. Your payment and support is very much appreciated. Every cent is put back into classroom for students.

The second installment for school fees has now passed. Please can you pay your school fees either through Compass, bPAY, the office or contact us to set up a payment plan.

I would also like to say thank you to the families that have contributed towards our school assistance program library fund and our buildings fund. These small contributions make a huge difference to some of our most in need students who require help and support with books, stationary and in some cases food and clothing. You can make a donation at any time during the year. Donations are also tax deductible.

Best regards,

Dale Perichon

College Principal

The great news is our school is growing rapidly. As a result we really need your help across our key school areas. Would you like to join one of the School Committees?

School committees report back to our School Council. The committees help shape the direction that our school is travelling as we move into this new phase of growth. If you have a desire or a skill set that you think you can offer the school please contact one of the convenors below.

BEIJING NO. 14 SECONDARY SCHOOL VISIT AND THE CHINESE CULTURAL DAY

During Week 2, from 7-10 February, the No. 14 Secondary School from Beijing visited our college. Twenty-four students and four teachers attended our school. They had English classes in the morning and participated in our Year 7-10 afternoon classes with their buddies at our college. On Thursday, 9th February, we celebrated our Chinese Cultural Day. The Chinese classes were involved in the varied cultural day activities, such as cutting, calligraphy and folding. In the afternoon we held the Chinese Concert at College theatre. Students from both schools were involved in the performances. We also invited some guest performers to do the lion dance and Kongfu action. We are grateful for all the support from the college leadership, teachers and parents.

MATHEMATICS AT COLLINGWOOD COLLEGE

The information night introducing some of the strategies we are using in Mathematics at our school was conducted last Wednesday night in the Library.

We discussed the Scaffolding Numeracy in the Middle Years program that was introduced towards the end of last year. The program’s intent was explained, where it came from, how we assess our students and how it is implemented at the primary and secondary grades to support and develop students’ mathematical understanding. Parents then had the opportunity to try some of the activities that students do as part of this program.

We also discussed our Reciprocal Teaching strategy and parents were able to view some of the maths problems students tackle and some of the work students had done last year.

Parents were shown the online program MathsOnline that is used by most teachers at Years 5 to 10 and how parents are able to monitor homework that is set by teachers and how the program could be used to support their children’s learning in Maths.

Parents were also given the opportunity to ask questions about what we do, as well as how they can support their children in their learning.

I would like to thank parents for making the time to come and have a look and I look forward to the next time we have an opportunity to get together to discuss what we do in Mathematics at Collingwood College.

CSEF - CAMPS, SPORTS AND EXCURSIONS FUND

The government is providing a much needed boost to eligible families in the form of a payment called CSEF. Families holding a valid means-tested concession card or temporary foster parents are eligible to apply. $125 per year is paid for eligible primary school students, with $225 per year paid for eligible secondary school students. A special consideration eligibility category also exists. Payments are made directly to the school and are tied to the student. It can be used for any excursion offered by the school. Please read this link to see how the fund works and whether your child is eligible. We urge you to prioritise this application.
