Acting Principal's Report

Parent Helper Information Session

It is coming to that time of year again when our parent helpers are inducted into the school. On March 18, 5:00pm at the Bundoora Campus we will run our first session. This session will be repeated at the Watsonia Campus at 9:15am on March the 20th. We are endeavoring to improve our connection with the greater community in 2019. This is always a challenge for us as we are not the local school and it can be really difficult to find the time to come into the classrooms and support. Even if you are only able to come into school once, every bit of support is welcome.

If you have attended a session in the past we do still require your attendance to ensure that we are able to meet child safety standards for our volunteers. There are some DET requirements around volunteer support that we must adhere to. All volunteers must have a current working with children check (WWC) and all volunteers must be inducted annually. Please complete the attached PDF should you wish to attend one of the sessions.

Child Safety Standards

Concord School prides itself on being a child safe environment. Our school actively promotes the safety and wellbeing of all students, and all school staff are committed to protecting students from abuse or harm within our school environment, in accordance with their legal obligations including child safe standards. Concord School has Child Safe and Child Safe Code of Conduct policies in place to guide our practice in ensuring the safety of all students. Where required, current Department information is referenced in the application of the Child Safe Standards.

There are seven standards that we have embedded across our school. This week I would like to focus on the first of the seven standards strategies to embed an organisational culture of child safety. This is enacted through our vision statement and school values and expectations. We also have a child safety officer. Colin Simpson our Assistant Principal of wellbeing works with all students

Punctuality(Beginning the Day)

Every day your child is away from school/late impacts on the level of success that will be achieved throughout their time in school. We understand that sickness or necessary/critical appointments are a part of everyday life and cannot be avoided. We also know that getting students to school every day and on time will enable us to get the best out of your child (academic, social and emotional growth) which is always our priority.

Routines and procedures are critically important in establishing a strong learning environment within each classroom. For this reason it is extremely important that students are at school, ready to begin their day, prior to the bell going at 9.00am. It is expected that learning begins from the moment the bell rings.

I sign off with a reminder that our Lower Primary BBQ has been postponed and will now take place on Friday the 15th of March. I look forward to meeting our new families and catching up with some that have been part of the Concord family for a few years now.

Communication with Families

Every year Concord School takes part in the Parent Opinion Survey to elicit feedback about how we are going and what improvements we could make to better support your child. We do get some important information from this survey but it is not specifically designed for our setting and this year we wanted to delve deeper to really give us an opportunity to find out how we can best communicate with you. Today we have attached a link to a very brief survey around communication. This survey is sent to all families as we are very keen to find out what the best methods of communication are and how we can best meet the needs of our students and families. We strongly encourage you to click on the link and spend a few minutes answering the questions as it will give us a really strong indication about how we can improve together.

Please click on the below link to access the survey. It will only take a few minutes and will close on the 22nd of March. Thanks for your time, I eagerly await the results of the survey.
