Secondary 9-10

'STEAM' night

The Secondary 9/10 STEAM Learning for the Future Night was on Wednesday 3 August and took place in the Discovery Centre.  This was a night for all parents and carers of Secondary 9/10 students to come and engage as well as interact with and observe what students had been learning in the STEAM Program.

STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics.  In Secondary 9/10 this program is taught on a Friday morning over 4 sessions (usually in the Discovery Centre).  Students have the opportunity to participate in either Photography, Music, 3D Printing and Design, Electronics, Media and Special Effects.  These programs run for 15 weeks.  For the last 5 weeks of the semester students are placed in new groups where they are given a problem to solve using the skills they have learnt in their STEAM program.  This past semester the students were given the task of creating a fun activity to play with during recess and lunch.  Some of the created activities were; a real life 3D game of Pac Man, a revamped version of Guess Who, an updated game of quoits and a race track for remote control cars controlled by ipads.

Section Update

In Secondary 9/10 this term we said goodbye to Mel Rofe and welcomed Jess Greenway.  Jess has been doing a terrific job and we have loved having her as part of our team.
