MiniLit Moments
by Cath Keen
Our wonderful tutors Mrs Rebecca Haddad, Mrs Helen Johnson and Mrs Bernie Seery finish MiniLit at the end of next week. They have had a fantastic year and worked hard with all the children on the MiniLit program. The program has now finished for the year and will re-commence at the beginning of 2017.
The MiniLit program has been specifically designed for Year 1 children who are still developing their reading skills. The program delivers activities such as blending, segmenting, word stretching, phonics games and reading books to boost and enhance reading.
If you would like to know more about the program that will run in 2017 please contact me at school by phone or email me at: ckeen@stphilomenasmoree.catholic.edu.au.

Brain Olympia
by Cath Keen
Last week sixteen children from Years 4-6 travelled to Narrabri and participated in the annual Brain Olympia day. The children were in two teams and participated in Trivia, Mathematics, Public Speaking and Drama.
At the conclusion of round one, ‘The Superstars’ came second. These students travelled once again to Narrabri to compete in the final Brain Olympia round on Wednesday 9th November. While not coming home with the trophy, the day was a wonderful experience. Congratulations to Nellie Crowe, Ruby Tighe, James Phelps, Sophie Robinson, Xanthe Cogan, Charles Rogers, Cody Baxter and Haylee Crouch.
St Philomena's 'Bronze' also did us proud and worked collaboratively throughout round one. Well done to Sophie Greer, Ryan Devney, Edward Montgomery, Olivia Mihill, Camille Maunder, Billy Finlayson, Albert Osborne and Zoe Ross.
