Community Success

Alison Sanza

Student Leadership Coordinator

Sincere thanks to the multitude of people – students, parents, teachers and the wider Brunswick community - who were involved in planning, setting/packing up, participating in and donating to the Twilight Market. Thanks also to our wonderful and generous Parents’ Association for the donation of valuable time as well as goods for sale.

The event offers a wonderful opportunity for innumerable sections of the school community to work collaboratively, providing students with the chance to gain valuable skills in critical and creative thinking, collaboration, teamwork, communication and problem solving. It also allows us to draw on the resources and goodwill of both our parent community and the local Brunswick/Coburg community.

The excellent weather, great music and range of interesting stalls ensured that the event was a great success.

Year 7

When organising the donations for the Silent Auction and raffle, I got the opportunity to collect donations from local businesses and shops in Brunswick alongside Stephanie Barwick.

I got to speak to business managers in a professional manner and to organise donations. I also learned how to manage my time more wisely when organising things. Many businesses and shops were happy to donate to our school, for a community event.

Overall it was a great experience and I learned a lot from being involved in the Twilight Market.

Year 10

The Twilight Market is always a super fun night at Brunswick Secondary College. This year with the new locations, everything felt so fresh and just a lot more exciting! This year I had the honour of being the Events Leader and my main role in the Twilight Market was to co-ordinate our new student stalls run by Year 7 and Year 8 students. Our students ran stalls such as a Hoop Toss game and a painting activity for charity, as well as the Plant Stall (that produced the highest sales!)

It was great to see so many people from the school community become involved in the Twilight Market this year, and I hope many more can be a part of it in 2020. Thank-you to everyone who helped put the night together!
