2019 VCAL Showcase

Sarah Meads

Teacher - Senior VCAL

A huge congratulations to the Year 12 VCAL students who have completed their Learning Outcomes for 2019 and graduated from Brunswick Secondary College.

To celebrate their achievements, last week the VCAL students presented a showcase of their major projects from throughout the year. Staff, parents, carers and community members attended and greatly enjoyed hearing the students proudly celebrate their work .

The showcase event included fabulous presentations on

  • the Story Book Project where students created illustrated story books aimed at kindergarten-age children for a local childcare centre.
  • the Rap It Up project which involved external volunteers helping students  to create and record a rap song aimed at developing oral and comprehension skills as well as achieving Personal Development outcomes.
  • the Numeracy Skills project, where students researched housing regulations, designed a house floorplan and created a miniature model of a house to meet the measurement and evaluation requirements of the VCAL Numeracy assessment.
  • the Wilsons Promontory VCAL camp  which was researched and organised by students.  This year was the first time that a camp has been incorporated into the VCAL curriculum. The students' careful planning and diligent work ethic ensured that the event was most successful as it provided the perfect oppportunity to demonstrate their exemplary Work Related Skills including communication, teamwork and leadership.

Through these valued projects, our students have represented Brunswick Secondary College and the extended Brunswick community with pride and responsibility. They approached and completed their work with enthusiasm, and have reaped the rewards of their work in clearly achieving all of their VCAL Learning Outcomes.

In addition to this, we are very pleased to announce that many of these hard-Working VCAL students have already secured jobs or TAFE placements for next year!

As we farewell the 2019 VCAL cohort, we wish them all every success in their future endeavours and hope that they will keep us up to date with their progress.
